“You sound sadistic, Kushida.”
Kushida shrugged, her smirk widening. “So what if I do? Isn’t it obvious?”
Ayanokoji’s eyes remained unfazed. “Forget it. I just want to know why you have my photo in your bedroom.”
Kushida’s eyes widened in shock, her smirk vanishing. She hadn’t expected him to know about that.
“Wha—how do you know that?” she stammered, looking flustered.
“I visit you during summer vacation, and I saw it,” he said calmly, observing her reaction with interest.
Her fingers trembled as she clutched the edge of her coat. Her breaths came in shallow bursts, and she avoided Ayanokoji’s gaze, her face flushed with a heat that made her skin prickle.
The silence between them was heavy, filled with unspoken words and emotions. Finally, Kushida spoke, her voice barely a whisper.
“So what? People have pictures of people they like,” she mumbled, trying to cover her embarrassment. But the flush on her face betrayed her feelings, revealing more than she intended.
“Is that why you have my picture?” Ayanokoji asked, his tone cold and analytical. His gaze softened slightly, hinting at a deeper curiosity.
Kushida’s face burned hotter, her heart pounding in her chest. She bit her lip, her hands trembling as she tried to mask the surge of vulnerability she couldn’t quite contain.
An awkward silence between them made her feel exposed. She fidgeted with the hem of her shirt, her mind a whirlwind of doubt and anticipation. Ayanokoji’s unwavering gaze made it clear she couldn’t hide her true feelings.
“No… that’s not… I mean...” she protested, but her bravado faltered, and her blush grew deeper. *Why can’t I just keep it together?* The more she tried to speak, the more her words stumbled, leaving her feeling vulnerable and raw.
Ayanokoji’s eyes softened slightly, and for a moment, it seemed like he might respond with a simple, reassuring gesture. Instead, he remained quiet, his expression unreadable, yet intensely focused. The silence stretched between them, each second feeling like an eternity.
Kushida’s eyes flickered away, her breaths quick and ragged. She chewed on her lower lip, her throat tightening as she struggled to find words, the silence pressing down like a heavy weight.
Finally, Ayanokoji’s gaze softened, and he leaned closer, breaking the silence. “Kushida, what’s really going on?” he said quietly, his voice a gentle probe into her tumultuous emotions.
"I..." Kushida stuttered, her cheeks flushing. "I like you," she said quietly, her voice trembling with a mix of fear and hope.
Ayanokoji gently lifted her chin, bringing her face closer to his. The close proximity heightened her awareness of every sensation.
As his breath brushed her skin, a shiver down her spine. She felt a heady warmth spread through her, a dizzying pull that made the world blur at the edges.
As he leaned in, the world seemed to fade. Her pulse quickened, anticipation flooding her senses. She could feel the electricity in the air, and without thinking, she leaned up and kissed him.
Their lips met in a tentative brush, sending a jolt through her. The gentle pressure of his kiss quickly intensified, and she felt a rush of warmth and longing that made her pulse race.
Ayanokoji returned the kiss with equal fervor. Her lips were warm and soft, carrying a hint of sweetness that made his pulse quicken.
The kiss was both a revelation and a confirmation of the feelings they had been hiding. Kushida pulled back, surprised by her own actions.
She looked at him, after a moment of silence, they leaned in for another kiss, more confident and intense.
The second kiss was a union of their pent-up emotions, each touch igniting a fire within them both.
His fingers wove through her hair as he pulled her closer, pressing his body against hers. The moment was electric, sending shivers down her spine.
As he held her close, she could feel the warmth of his breath on her skin, filling her with desire. "Mmm..." was all she could manage as the kiss deepened.
Kushida broke the kiss, breathless, and gazed at him with flushed cheeks. The memory of his warmth lingered on her lips, sending a tremor through her. The kiss left her breathless, her heart thudding in her chest.
He gently brushed a strand of hair behind her ear, the simple gesture flooding her with an unexpected warmth that softened her defenses. She was overwhelmed by the tender sincerity in his touch.
"You sure know how to surprise me," he said calmly, as if he wasn’t the one who had taken the first step.
Kushida’s gaze fell to her lap. She twisted the sleeve of her shirt between her fingers, her cheeks flushed a deep red. Her voice wavered as she struggled to keep her tone steady. "I wasn’t exactly planning it…"
He raised an eyebrow, his gaze steady. "That’s surprising."
Kushida rolled her eyes, trying to mask her nervousness with a forced nonchalance. A nervous smile tugged at her lips, and she struggled to contain the fluttering sensation in her chest. This feels both exhilarating and terrifying.
"You're impossible, you know that?" she said, crossing her arms over her chest. Her voice was gruff, but the edges softened by the tender smile she struggled to hide.
“Kushida… maybe we should see where this goes,” he said, his voice a low murmur, but with an undercurrent of confidence that made her breath catch in her throat, and she felt her heart thud in her chest.
She blinked, her pulse quickening. "Really? You mean, us?"
He gently pulled her into a hug.
As he wrapped his arms around her, a shiver ran down her spine. The steady rhythm of his heartbeat was like a soothing lullaby, calming her racing pulse. She whispered, barely audible, "I...I take it as yes."
He pulled back just enough to gaze into her eyes, his own filled with a steadfast tenderness. "You matter to me, more than I expected."
Her breath caught in her throat, a soft gasp escaping as her mind struggled to process the gentle sincerity in his voice.
She searched his eyes, wide and shimmering, hoping to decipher the truth behind his unexpected confession.
Overwhelmed by his gaze, her eyes shimmered, and she bit her lip, struggling to hold back tears. Her heart swelled with a mix of shyness and adoration.
Finally, her lips trembled as they slowly curved into a hesitant smile. "I...I guess I can go out with you" she whispered, her voice wavering with emotion.
