A scream tore through me, white hot pain striking my body and I couldn't breathe, couldn't think. Battle raged around me as I lay withering on the floor, waves of agony crashing through me. I could smell the metal, taste it on my tongue and my teeth chattered in pain, body cramping.
I could hear them calling my name. But they weren't calling for Angel, they were calling for Alex.
My eyes shot open, and I flew backwards against the hard wooden headboard, clutching my side tightly as my eyes locked on to the figure by the end of my bed.
"it's okay" hands raised, and I blinked back the tears, Feyre's face coming into focus. She was...worried. I hugged my jumper covered arms around myself, focusing on breathing.
"You should be asleep"
"Alex-"
"I'm fine, just a nightmare" I soothed, forcing my heart to calm despite the way my hands shook.
Her lips pressed together, and I smelt the metal, watching her eyes glaze slightly.
"you can go back to bed" I knew her and Rhysand were talking between them, probably asking where she was.
"I'm okay" she denied, settling down on my bed beside me. "do you want to talk about it?"
I inhaled deeply, shaking my head. Her hand sought out mine, holding it close.
"Do you remember that one summer? Where we went down to the lake and spent hours wading through the water?" Feyre recalled. I listened to the soft hum of her voice as she recounted endless stories of our youth together, my whole body relaxing next to her. She began to stroke my hair, coaxing my head into her lap as I curled next to her, gentle touches and soft lulls of her voice sending me back to sleep.
