Chapter 15: Netherrealm's Fortress

At Earthrealm's Sky Temple, a raging storm echoes through the landscape, with red lightning cutting through the cloudy night sky and going straight into the top of the temple itself. The sound of someone screaming in agony echoes over the continuing lightning strikes. In the Sky Temple many floors of the have been outright demolished by the lightning, and the hole extends to the very bottom floor that houses the Jinsei, the life force of Earthrealm as the red lightning is being blasted directly into a person, as the once felmale Symbiote Mileena is bound by chains and bloodied by the continued assault, Mileena is powerless to do anything but scream at the lightning striking his body. The strikes stop for a moment, allowing Mileena a moment to catch her breath and speak. 

Mileena: You... you should thank us, Raiden. Your battle with Y/N has changed you... for the better! 

Raiden stands across from Mileena, in front of the Jinsei itself. His eyes now glow a bright red as he charges up red lightning through his hands and blasts it at Mileena once more. The blasts continue for several seconds as Raiden closes the distance between himself and the symbiote. 

Raiden: Be silent, Mileena! 

Raiden stops the blasts and Mileena sinks to her knees, the chains on her arms preventing her from keeling over entirely. She nonetheless manages to chuckle, in spite of her predicament. Raiden hovers his hand over Mileena's head for a moment, then he suddenly grabs it, channeling more lightning directly into Mileena for a brief moment. After the assault, Mileena finds his tongue once again. 

Mileena: But you wear Y/N's amulet. Finally you embrace the truth that Y/N is right. 

Raiden: The truth I embrace, Mileena, is that mercy is wasted on those who defile Earthrealm. 

He places a hand on Mileena's chains. 

Mileena: I will destroy our enemies before they destroy us... starting with you! 

He yanks the chains, pulling Mileena to his feet. Mileena begins to chuckle in response. 

Mileena: How, Raiden? Not even you cannot kill Y/N. 

Raiden says nothing, but instead charges more lightning through his hand. Shinnok braces for another assault, but Raiden does not blast him this time. 

Raiden: There are fates worse than death. 

He closes his fist, and the lightning forms into a blade pulsing with red electricity. Raiden draws his arm back and then slices the blade clean through Mileena's neck. Mileena gags as blood begins to spill from the wound, and a moment later her severed head falls from his shoulders. Raiden dismisses the lightning blade and drags Mileena's head - still leaking blood - across the Jinsei chamber to a nearby table. Thanks to the symbiote, she is still alive as she opens her eyes once more, she tries to speak, but cannot form any words without the use of her lungs. Raiden slams his fist down onto the table, sparking once more with red electricity. 

Raiden: I will deliver you to Liu Kang and your Netherrealm minions. You will serve as warning - and an emblem of my wrath. 

He walks to the hole in the Temple and teleports away. As soon as he does so, another figure appears in the Jinsei chamber. As this person walks into the fray, the raindrops from the raging storm slow and then stop entirely, suspended in midair. The person is a Y/N. He walks over to the table with Mileena's head on it. 

Y/N: This is not your destiny, Mileena. Once again the Raiden has taken another life. 

Mileena is unaffected by the time bending occurring in the rest of the chamber. 

Y/N: But know this: once I'm done, the world will be healed. 

He clenches his hand into a fist. The blood flowing from Mileena's head starts to drip down the side of the table... until it suddenly stops. Mileena tries to speak, but is still unable to do so.
