How I Met Your Mother (Tae's POV)

THE YEAR 2045

Kim Taehyung (50 year old father):  Kids, I'm gonna tell you an incredible story. The story of how I met your mother.

Kim Minho (14 year old son):  Are we being punished for something?

Taehyung:  No.

Kim Minji (16 year old daughter):  Is this gonna take a while?

Taehyung:  Yes. Twenty-six years ago, before I was Dad, I had a whole other life.

Minji and Minho (annoyed):  We know! You were in BTS.

It was way back in 2019. BTS was at the height of our success and there was even more to come. We were winning awards left and right. And there were a lot of award shows in South Korea. Little did people know that after the shows, there were sometimes post-parties at the group dorms. For the first time, the party was at our dorm, right after the Melon Music Awards. BTS was on a high after winning all four most prestigious Daesang awards.

We felt like we had just ran a marathon after our thirty-seven minute set of various songs at the show. But we were in good enough spirits to invite some groups that performed like Mamamoo and TXT, and some that had never gone to parties before like Stray Kids and CRE85 (pronounced "creative").

These parties tended to be low-key and laid back, but once the alcohol started flowing, we idols couldn't help ourselves and let loose by playing drinking games or dancing to each other's songs. And it wouldn't be a party without a few hookups here and there.

When CRE85's "Super Sly" blasted from the Bluetooth speakers in our living area, I immediately joined the small group of idols forming a dance circle. Swinging our arms and heads in circles, we ate up the Bollywood-inspired choreo and shouted "Oppa!" during the chorus at the top of our lungs. To our surprise, one of the CRE85 members joined the dance, her group having just arrived to the party, and we got hyped as we followed her moves, stepping and bouncing to the dance-pop EDM song.

Her auburn hair, styled in big waves, flipped back and forth as she whipped her head to the music. She wasn't hard on the eyes with her cute round face and big doe eyes. And when she sidled up to me as the song ended, I started puffing up my shoulders, willing to give her a chance.

"Hey, Taehyung...tell me...is Jimin single?"

With those words, the air around me deflated. It didn't help that a pair of hands suddenly rested on my shoulders, literally pushing them down to humble me. Turns out it was your Uncle Jimin, as he used me to cower slightly and give the woman a shy smile. "Hi, Sera. Good to see you here."

Pushing off me, Jimin moved to the side and she happily followed him, practically skipping toward the bar for some one-on-one privacy.

Minji:  Aunt Sera?

Minho:  I thought this was about how you met mom.

Taehyung:  Relax. I'm getting to it. It's a long story...
