Life was supposed to be normal. You were supposed to grow up a normal life and live in a normal world. Your mother wasn't supposed to die when you were only sixteen. That wasn't included in a happy normal life. After graduating high school, you and your best friend were supposed to travel the world together. Her death was not a part of your plan. All of your friends and family were not supposed to die. None of this was part of your normal life.
You were not supposed to be the only girl left in the world.
That was not normal.
These days, nothing seemed normal to you. Your father was broken, crushed by the weight of losing his wife, family, and friends. Your brother locked himself up and never came out of his room, but you couldn't blame him, because neither did you.
It would risk too much.
If you got seen by any man other than your family, chances are all hell would break loose. You've watched the news broadcasts since you had nothing else better to do, and all you saw were horrific things.
And men that happened to look feminine in any way were often harassed, or worse. They said that suicidal rates had gone through the roof and depression was at an all-time high. It made sense, many people lost the ones they loved.
It all started a couple of months ago when scientists were trying to formulate yet another cure for cancer and happened to create a virus that only infected women. It was highly contagious and fatal.
Every single woman died.
Except for you.
Somehow, you were immune to the disease. No matter how close you got, or however many times you got coughed or sneezed on, it never affected you. Though, you hated this about yourself.
If anyone figured out that you were the last one, it would be game over. The entire world would fight over you, after all, you were the last way the human population could live. Whoever managed to get their hands on you would force you to bear child after child after child. Your female children would have to do the same probably as soon as they got their first period.
You shuddered at the thought, but as soon as you did, there was a knock on the door.
"Hello?" you heard your dad a couple of seconds later.
"Hi! You are Mr. (L/N) right?" the man asked.
"Uh yeah, and who are you?"
"I'm from the local police department. As you know, schools have been closed ever since the um, 'incident', and we are reopening them this next week. It says here you have two sons, would you mind if I could see both of them? I just want to make sure they are still here if you get what I mean."
"Two sons?" your father echoed. You, in your room, froze. The horrible mistake your family made to protect you was now about to come back and bite you. When much of the female population had died, your mother, who worked for the government, had gotten your birth certificate and changed your gender to male. It had helped in the long run since she changed as many records of you being female as she could, and therefore no one bothered to look for you. Hands trembling, you knew what you had to do. Luckily, you were wearing a baggy gray sweatshirt and black sweatpants, the only problem that could give you away was your hair. As quickly as you could, you grabbed the pair of scissors sitting on your desk and cut your hair off. The haircut was extremely messy, and your (H/C) locks were now at your jawbone. You ran out of your room and yelled:
