-The Devil You Know-

-Chapter Twelve: Truth, Training, Tempted-

"We're the good guys...right?"

"Okay...that should be good, how do you feel now?" The nurse asked as some eye drops soothed your eyes.

"Uh, yeah fine" You grumbled, your eyes still stinging as you stood back up.

As much as Vought tower had a sense of being almost too perfect, too professional, too clean, you did commend their medical bay.

Eventually you were let off, as you rubbed your eyes and checked your phone, seeing a missed call from your father, definitely odd.

You slowly walked into the elevator, letting Ava know you'd be home soon, you expected to ride the elevator down to the ground alone, but a red glove stopped the doors from closing for a moment.

Homelander walked in, giving you a brief nod and a smile, he was slowly becoming a divisive topic to say the least, especially since Stormfront joined The Seven.

"I know that terrorist was supposed to be yours..." Homelander apologised. "Believe me it was...out of my hands"

"Uh...right, yeah well, at least the problems gone now" You nodded back.

"Well not really" Homelander tilted his head. "There's still probably tons of supe terrorists being smuggled in every day"

"Well if there is, we'll stop them" You triumphantly smiled to Homelander, who's face was still neutral.

"I swear...we shouldn't be letting any of them in..." He mumbled, but you had a strong feeling he wasn't just talking about terrorists. "We'd be so much better off if we didn't have them running around...conspiring against people like us"

You cleared your throat, obviously you couldn't voice your opinion on what he'd just said too much, you still needed to be on his good side if you were gonna get ahead.

"That's...one idea...but I'm sure it'll work out" You smiled, as you saw your floor was almost here.

Homelander reached forward and stopped the elevator, leaving just the two of you as Homelander let out a sigh.

"What's it like?" He asked.

"What's what like?" You asked back.

"Being the son of a hero" He crossed his arms. "Any...side effects, differences. You didn't take compound V because you were just...born with it"

"Well its, definitely different from taking compound V, or that's what my dad says I guess..." You chuckled. "Why do you ask?"

"No reason" Homelander said after a bout of silence, as the elevator doors opened.

"Hey" Homelander cleared his throat as you went to step out. "You're on my side...right?"

You looked back at him, he had an emotion on his face you didn't expect to see, almost like a form of desperation.

"Yeah...yeah of course..." You nodded. "We're the good guys...right?"

right?"
