Wakai's POV
It had been a day since Aunt Missy had reinstated all monster laws. We were all gathered in the auditorium to announce the nominees for President. I knew my brother was going to try out, and probably win. The Buchanans never, ever, lost.
"Okay, are there any nominees for president?" Asked Principal Lee, "Just a reminder that being part of student council means that we get to hang. Anybody, anybody want to hang? Just... anyone want to hang out? Anyone? Oh, we could come up with our very own complicated high five. That'd be fun, huh?" She rambled awkwardly.
Luckily, Bucky saved her from further embarrasment by flipping onto the stage. "Great news, we have a brilliant and cheer tested candidate running for president this year. Me!" He gave the crowd jazz hands. "Bucky! Bucky! Bucky! Bucky! Bucky! Bucky! Bucky!" We all cheered.
Before anyone saw what happened, Zed fell down the rows of seats and onto the stage. "Zombie strong!" He yelled out to the crowd. We cheered. "Hello, everyone. My name is Zed, and I am running for president." Zed said. I gasped. "Zed can't steal my spotlight." Bucky whinged. "What about the whole anti-monster thingy?"
"Anyone can run for president, Bucky." Addison snapped. I made a face at her. "She actually has a point, Mr. Bucky." Said Principal Lee. The Aceys gasped, "A zombie president? Ew!" Zed faced the crowd. "Okay. If you vote for me, I will bring you prosperity and awesomeness!" We all cheered, "Zed! Zed! Zed! Zed! Zed! Zed! Zed! Zed!"
Zed grinned. "As your president, I will make Seabrook a place that embraces zombies and..." "Werewolves?" Bree asked. Zed frowned. "Uh, no. Why would we want..." He screamed and pointed, "Werewolves!"
I whipped around to look where he was pointing. Sure enough, the wolf boy was there with all his friends. "There she is!" A female wolf, who seemed like the leader, pointed to Addison. Zed stepped in front of her. "Football team! Defense, Z 24."
"Where's the moonstone, white hair?" The lead wolf growled at Addison. She whimpered pathetically. "I think you've got the wrong person." A short wolf with two buns stepped forward. She yelled, "Our razor sharp claws will gut'em and splatter their blood." Wolf boy and the leader looked at her. The short wolf cringed. "Too much?" The leader turned to the pack. "Wolves! On my command!"
Wolf boy leaned in and whispered to the leader. "Willa. We can't go to war with the whole town. We'll never find the moonstone if they're on high alert." I nodded. "Good choice, wolf boy." Wolf boy started, and stared at me. The leader, 'Willa', growled at Wolf boy. "I hate it when you're right. Wolves, stand down." Willa turned to us. "Sorry. We werewolves so admire your town, and we just came here to join your school." I raised an eyebrow, not believing it for a second. Apparently, neither did Bucky.
"What? They can't join our school!" Bucky protested. Coach shrugged. "Technically the Forbidden Forestis within the school district." Addison stepped forward and grinned her I'm-being-so-helpful-not smile, "So, welcome to Seabrook!"
Later, I was helping Zed hand out flyers for his presidential campain. I was going to help Bucky with his election speech later. "Zed for prez!" I said, passing a flyer to a passerby. Zed, Eliza and Bonzo were doing the same.
"Vote Zed for prez, because I'm a zombie, not a zom-can't-be." Zed said cheerfully. Eliza walked in front of him, listing off things he should do once he was president. "Okay, here's our platform. We fight for zombie toppings on pizza in the cafeteria." Zed nodded. "Get Zombie tongue taughtas a second language." Zed nodded. "And how to overthrow your oppressors after school club." Zed sighed. "Eliza..." Eliza shook herself. "Sorry, right. Don't over-promise."
Zed chuckled. "But more importantly, we allow zombies at Prawn." Just then, Addison and Bree jogged over. Addison threw her arms around her boyfriend's neck. "Good luck, Mr. Future President." Bree giggled. "Hey Zed, did you hear? Addy's being tested for captain, and she gets to run cheer practice tomorrow." Addison shrugged. "It's not a big deal. Okay, it's huge." I rolled my eyes."A huge chance to fail!" Called out Lacey. I winked at her when the others weren't looking and she grinned. "Wakai!" JC called out. "Bucky said something about having to 'talk cheer' with you. He was in the gym last I saw." I nodded, said goodbye to them all, and ran off.
I found Bucky handing out flyers in the hall. "Bucky Buchanan for president. A vote for Bucky is a vote for cheer-fection." He said cheerily. "Hey, Buck!" I called. He turned. "Hey, 'Kai. So, I know you said you don't wanna be cheer anymore, but I need you." I raised an eyebrow. "What for?"
He fidgeted. "Look, I told Addy she could be captain if she aces the cheer practice tomorrow." I laughed. "Big mistake. Even one of the Aceys would be better than her." Bucky nodded. "I know. That's why I want you to run practice with her too. Then, if you're better, you can be captain. I know you'd want to." I nodded.
"You're right. I do want to. And I'd be a much, much, much better captain than Addison." Bucky clapped his hands. "Well, I guess I'll see you tomorrow in the gym." I laughed. "I'll see you tomorrow anyway, Bucky." He frowned. "Of course." He said, then he walked off.
The wolves stalked past. Willa glared at me, Wolf boy grinned, and the short wolf waved entusiastically, earning a growl from Willa. "These sheep just let us in?" Willa muttered, "Baaaad idea." Wolf boy sighed. "We agreed to play nice." Willa shrugged. "Oh, this is me being nice." She walked along, scratching the lockers. She lowered her voice again. "Now let's find that moonstone." I stepped in front of her. "What's this 'moonstone' you keep referring to?" I asked, lowering my voice in the same way Willa did.
She frowned at me. "How do you keep hearing us? We're speaking in the way that only werewolves can hear. And how did you speak like that?" I shrugged. "Well first, I guess I just have good hearing. And second, everyone says I'm a fast learner." Willa frowned unbelievingly. Then she stalked off, Wolf boy gently touching my arm on the way past. I smiled at him, and he grinned back wolfishly.
Later, we were studying in the library. I was sitting with Bree and the short wolf who had introduced herself as Wynter. Addison came and sat with us, and Wynter growled and ripped out a page of Bree's homework.
"Hey, that dog just ate my homework!" Bree whined. I shook my head. "Bree, they're not dogs." Wynter smiled at me. "Lies!" Willa yelled, dropping a heavy stack of books on the table. Me and Addison jumped. "These history books claim werewolves attacked Seabrook settlers. But they struck first and stole our moonstone.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know that." Addison said, in her I'm-so-innocent voice. I glared at her, "There's a lot you don't know. I mean, a few days ago, we didn't even know werewolves were real!" Willa nodded at me gratefully, then walked out of the library with the books under her arm. "I know the alarm's going to go off if you don't check out those books!" Called Addison wimpishly.
Willa just took off her necklace and threw it at the alarm, causing it to spark so it didn't go off. "Our necklaces have a way with electronics." Wolf boy said, sneaking up behind me. I turned to face him, and our faces were so close I could have kissed him. But of course, I didn't.
"How on earth do you guys sneak up like that?" I asked Wynter and Wolf boy (I still hadn't figured out his name.) He shrugged and put his hands on my shoulders. I sighed, "What are you guys doing later?" Wynter grinned. "Wyatt wants you to show us around." Wolf boy - Wyatt - blushed and cleared his throat. "We all do." He corrected. I shrugged. "Yeah, I'm probably gonna be in Zombietown with Zed later, so meet me there." "Great!" Wyatt said, gripping my shoulders tighter.
The bell rang, and I paced up my stuff and turned to leave. But at last minute, I turned and hugged Wyatt. "See you soon!" I told him, before racing off with my cheeks burning.
