<Ne, is it really your birthday today?>
Ayanokouji Kiyotaka stared at his phone screen. After Karuizawa Kei received instructions to make a scene and spill a drink to Kushida tomorrow, she sent the message asking if it was his birthday. He was not expecting anyone to acknowledge it in his first year in this school.
Perhaps because it took him too long to reply, Karuizawa became impatient and sent another message without waiting for his answer.
<Why didn't you tell me earlier?>
<I'm going to your room in 30mins>That would be troublesome. Their partnership works because no one suspects that the Class D's leader of the girls would have anything to do with the loner guy. If anyone catches her sneaking into his room, it may ruin his plans.
He was typing his message telling her not to go but before he could send it, he received another text.
<No excuses! I'll go there whether you open up or not.>
This girl. Realizing that she will more likely get caught if she lingers outside his room, Ayanokouji had no choice but to let her in.
Letting out an exasperated sigh, he just sent a message telling her not to bother knocking because he will leave the door unlocked. Immediately after sending it, he got another reply. Just how fast is this woman typing?
But what he received didn't have any text in it. It was a sticker of a cute strawberry shortcake with a bunch of candles.
For Ayanokouji, his birthday only meant that he was a year older. He knew that for other people it was often celebrated with family, friends, or a lover. But he didn't understand what he should feel when someone celebrates his birthday with him. Karuizawa would be the first.
"Guess it could be a good experience."
Deciding to focus on the positive, he proceeded to delete their texts while waiting for her. He was about to delete the sticker as well but a part of him hesitated.
"I'll delete it later," he mumbled as he tidied up his room, waiting for his visitor.

"I can only get convenience store cake. You really should have told me sooner."
"You really didn't have to. It's no big deal."
"Ha?? It's your birthday, you know! C'mon let's eat this!"
"You can sit where you want. I'll prepare the drinks. What will you have?"
"Black tea please."
Ayanokouji prepared their drinks in the kitchen and grabbed some forks and plates. When he came back, he found Karuizawa lying on his bed face down, inhaling his pillow.
"What are you doing?"
"Fwah! Y.. you.. You're back.."
Her face turned red and for a second he swears he heard the sound of a teapot whistling when the water boils, but he's quite sure he turned it off when he made their tea. He set the drinks and cake on the table and gestured for Karuizawa to sit on one side and she followed.
"What will you do if you get caught sneaking into my room?"
"..Sorry."
Immediately, she transformed into a starving abandoned kitten drenched in the rain with dilated eyes that would tug your heartstrings and make you want to adopt her. It startled Ayanokouji but before he could explain that it was just a question and not meant to scold her, she spoke again.
