Her tiny fingers reached out, and traced the image of her mother, Her touch was so gentle, like she was afraid the picture might break.
Aera's eyes lingered on every detail of her mom's face, As Aera continued to gaze at the photo, she realised, It was like looking into a mirror, except older, almost like a grown-up version of herself staring back.
Aera's eyes widened in surprise. Her mom had the same button nose as her, Even the way their hair curled at the ends seemed the same! A gasp escaped her lips.
"He's beautiful, isn't he?" Jungkook asked with a small smile.
"he looks like me!" Aera giggled as she pointed at her own button nose, then back at the picture, her tiny finger practically jabbing the glass with each prod. "We have the same nose, Papa!"
Jungkook chuckled, tears brimming in his eyes. "Yes, princess," he said, pulling her close "You are absolutely beautiful, just like your momma."
Aera snuggled into his embrace,Then, she pulled back, her eyes bright with a newfound realization. "But I have your eyes, Papa!" she declared, pointing a finger at her own big, brown eyes.
"And your bunny smile!" she added, grinning wide and showing off two adorable front teeth missing in the gap.
Jungkook's heart melted. He brushed a stray strand of hair from her cheek and leaned down, planting a soft kiss on her forehead. "You're right, little one," he agreed with a laugh.
"Sleepy time now princess, You have school otherwise you will get late!"
Aera looked up at him, her eyes drooping a little. A tired yawn escaped her tiny lips, a sound so adorable it made Jungkook want to scoop her up and hold her all night.
Aera smiled feeling sleepy. She snuggled deeper into her soft blankets, the photo frame clutched tightly in her tiny hand. It felt warm and safe, a precious connection to the mom she'd never met.
Jungkook watched her sleep for awhile, a bittersweet smile playing on his lips. He leaned down and gently kissed her forehead, whispering
"Happy birthday, my little princess." A single tear escaped his eye, tracing a path down his cheek. He quickly brushed it away,
He turned off the nightlight, As he tiptoed out of her room, He missed Taehyung too, Standing in the hallway, Jungkook allowed himself to cry his heart out, He leaned against the wall, his hand pressed against his heart, he choked sob escaped his lips
Five years had passed since Jungkook last felt the warmth of Taehyung's hand in his. Five years since their eyes met, sharing a silent language of love and promises only they understood.
Every night, Jungkook would lie in bed, tears slipping down his cheeks as he thought about Taehyung. Even though life had pulled them apart, his love for Taehyung never faded, not one bit
Closing his eyes, Jungkook drifted off to sleep, and in his dreams, he wasn't alone. He dreamt of his beautiful wife their touches and warm hugs and kisses.
He dreamt of Taehyung, his love, and the happy memories they made together. Even though those dreams brought a smile to his face in the morning, they also left a pang of sadness in his heart.
Taehyung was sitting alone in a quiet room, The only light came from the window, showing the teary face of a certain brunette, A small cake kept on a table infront of him.
With a trembling hand, he lit the candles on the cake, their tiny flames flickering like fireflies. Taehyung forced a smile
"H-Happy birthday, Aera, my baby doll," he whispered, his voice thick with pain "I hope you're happy wherever you are. Your mommy loves you so much." He closed his eyes for a moment, picturing Aera, his new born baby's chubby face, He missed her more than words could say.
"God, I want to see my b-baby"
Tears welled up in his eyes as, blurring his vision. He took a shaky breath and blew out the candles, a single wish escaping his lips in a silent plea. With a heavy heart, Taehyung picked up a small piece of cake eating it slowly
As he finished the small pieced of cake, a single tear rolled down his cheek, landing on the empty plate, He wiped his eyes with the back of his hand, He wished to see Aera again, to hold her close and tell her how much he missed her
Taehyung sniffled, his eyes were red rimmed and puffy from crying. He quickly wiped away a stray tear that escaped down his cheek, he shoved the birthday cake aside when he saw his mother standing in the doorway
"Taehyung-ah, are you okay ?" she asked gently, Taehyung forced a smile, his heart heavy with a grief he couldn't express.
"Nothing, Eomma," he croaked, his voice thick with emotion. "Just... missing Aera a bit more today, I guess.. after all i-it's her birthday my g-girl turned f-five can you b-believe it ?"
He chuckled tears falling down from his eyes like a broken dam, His mother wrapped him in a warm hug, her touch a soothing balm to his wounded soul.
"my sweet baby ," she murmured, squeezing him tightly. "I know it's hard, but you have to be strong, tae... It's been five years, but the pain of losing someone you love never truly goes away."
Taehyung sniffled back a tear, nodding weakly into his mother's shoulder.
His mother pulled back, wiping away a tears from his rosy cheeks. "Come now," she said in her soft voice. "You must be exhausted from your journey. Get some sleep. Tomorrow is a new day, and you have a fresh start at the new school."
She gestured towards the bed, its sheets pulled back invitingly. "Have a nice sleep, tae, You wouldn't want to look like a clown on your first day as a teacher to your KG students, would you?"
A small smile tugged at the corner of Taehyung's lips. His mother always knew how to lighten the mood, even in his darkest moments. He nodded in agreement.
"Alright, Eomma. You win. I'll go to sleep."
He stood up, his muscles aching slightly from the long journey, his family recently got shifted from daegu to busan.
Tae reached into his pocket, his fingers brushing against his phone. he pulled it out and unlocked the device. His thumb hovered over the photo gallery app, a watery smile tugging at his lips. He tapped the icon,
Then, there it was a photo of him and his new born daughter, Jeon Aera.
She was swaddled tightly, a tiny bundle of pink and white, her eyes closed in peaceful slumber. Tae was cradling her gently, His fingers traced the outline of her face on the screen, as if he is feeling the softness of her bread cheeks now.
