THEY SPENT TWO DAYS ON THE AMTRAK TRAIN. it gave bowie alot of time to think about the last few weeks of her life ----- being temporarily adopted, meeting percy, the dream about michael yew, transforming into her wolf twice, and now this quest. gods, she thought, my life really is messed up. though, that was natural for a demigod, she supposed.
while on the train, there were no more monster attacks but there definitely was some trouble that had arisen. to put it short, percy was in the news, and bowie kind of was aswell. the Treeton register - news showed a photo taken by a tourist as they had been getting off the Greyhound bus.
percy had a wild look in his eyes, his sword a metallic blur in his hands. the Mist probably made it look like a normal weapon, maybe a baseball bat.
bowie, grover and annabeth featured in the photo aswell, though not as visible as the son of poseidon. bowie was the second most visible out of the four of them, her face was slightly blurry but she could make out her red hair and some of her facial features.the caption read:
twelve year old percy jackson, wanted for questioning in the Long Island disappearance of his mother two weeks ago, is shown here fleeing from the bus where he accosted several elderly female passengers. The bus exploded on an east New Jersey roadside shortly after Jackson fled the scene. Based on eyewitness accounts, police believe the boy may be traveling with three teenage accomplices. one of them has been recognised as bowie coleman, who recently ran away after being adopted. jackson's stepfather, Gabe Ugliano, has offered a cash reward for information leading to his capture. there has, so far, been no comment from ruthie coleman, bowie's adoptive mother."this doesn't look good." bowie had commented once she saw it, "ruthies last name is coleman. I didn't even know that."
"ruthie? who's that?" grover asked her.
"ruthie adopted me like a couple weeks before i came to that posh school to aid you and chiron with percy. I ran away though. domestic shit is not my thing, yknow.""it doesn't matter anyway. mortal police could never find us." annabeth said, though she sounded slightly unsure.
for the rest of the day, percy either looked out the windows or walked around the train.
bowie opted for a nap, resting her head against grover who didn't seem to mind that much, even when his arm went dead.the reward money for returning gladiola had only been enough to purchase tickets as far as denver.
there was a three hour layover before getting there at the amtrak station downtown. percy and annabeth were already awake, no doubt talking about something that might be relevant to the quest. bowie didn't care, she was kinda hungry and still really sleepy.
