Chapter Five.

I woke up early. I hadn't even watched the forest last night, in fact I'd slept. I was too tired to keep watch for the people I called friends. Millie was coming out of the forest from a nearby fishing lake in the woods. I waved at her, and she just smiled weakly. Something was up.

I quickly ran down the stairs and caught up with her.

"Are you okay?" I asked.

"Look, I don't know if I'm going to survive the week, Ellie. I was bitten."

"What?! When?"

"When we were getting in the truck. I didn't want to say anything because I knew Logan would shoot me. I'm so sorry, Ellie. Don't be worried if I go missing.."

"Why didn't you tell me?!"

Millie just looked at the floor. "Look, I'm sorry."

I ignored her. I knew somebody was faking themselves, and I would have never thought it was Millie. My heart flushed away the tears and I walked back into the house to find Mollie snuggled with her neice Lottie.

"Hi, Mollie."

"Oh, Ellie. Um, did you know if any radio devices had been reached? My friend Mack worked on Radio 2.730 and I wanted to know if he made it."

"We got a radio signal when we got here last month," I explained. "But it sounded like whoever was on the other end didn't make it. Feel free to use the radio in the basement. I think Bella is down there right now."

Mollie smiled. "Oh, by the way. Did you find anything at the store?"

I looked around, then I said beside her. "I found one walker. It was my friend Mason, the one that obviously didn't make it. I saw some batteries and a phone charger, but Mason was blocking it. I wasn't able to snag them. Sorry."

"It's okay. My phone died two hours ago. I don't know how much longer I am going to watch Teletubbies. It's cringey. Could you possibly look for some DVD's or tapes around the house? Anything."

I nodded. Tessa walked behind me, hugging me. "You're so brave. You standing up to Nate was the bravest thing ever. Nate's always moody and in a huff. You stood up to him!"

Her smile made me feel like butter sliding down warm toast. It was impossible for somebody to feel so relaxed like her right now.

Focusing a little bit more, I searched the rooms upstairs for any tapes. All I found was a camera with some recorded videos on and a few movies. Luckily, I found the movie Finding Nemo stacked up by magazines, which I also took downstairs to Mollie.

"Here you are," I said, handing Mollie the things I had found. "I'm gonna go on the roof on lookout. Shout me if you need anything else."

"Okay. I will."

I made my way to the roof again. I curiously took out the camera I had found hidden away in my satchel. I turned it on, and watched.

It was the old woman, recording herself and some man in the basement. The man looked like an inspector of some sort.

"I'm sorry, Janine. Your children haven't made it back from University. Somebody found a car swarming with flies. They're dead."

I noticed that the old woman was holding a pen knife. She quickly stabbed the man, as he fell to the floor limbless and cold. She hung him up in the corner, and hung some sheets. She said to the camera that he would soon be dead. Nothing was done. Which meant that he was still there. And that he would somehow come off that rope.

I ran to the basement. The sheets were on the floor. Behind the rope, with NO person on, was a hole so big that even a bear could fit through. The fence that I could see in the gap was broken. Which could only mean one thing. He's either gone out, or something has come in..

"MOLLIE!"

Mollie was fine. So was everybody else. I was calmed. Mollie's eyes widened.

"Oh my god! ELLIE LOOK OUT!"

I ducked, just as a walker jumped on top of me and sunk it's teeth into my neck. I yelped in pain, and Logan ran in and shot his head. Behind him came swarms of zombies that had come in. I didn't know where they had come from. I was still shocked that Logan saved me.

"To the god damn truck, everybody!" shouted Logan. Everybody ran. Millie didn't.

"Millie! What the hell, come on!"

"No! I'm bitten! It's not Christian! Let me die!"

"I'm bitten too! Come on, Millie."

"No, please just go. I'm, I'm..."

Swarms of zombies just buired her. Logan grabbed my arm and we drove in the truck out of the forest. There was no say in where we were headed. We were doomed.
