As the final bell rang, signalling the end of classes for the day, students began to gather their belongings and make their way towards the dormitories. I, too, joined the bustling crowd, feeling a sense of relief that the school day was finally over.
The halls were filled with chatter and laughter as friends caught up with each other and made plans for the evening as they walked alongside their classmates. I was looking forward to relaxing in my dorm room.
Despite the busyness of the day, there was a sense of calmness that settled over me as I walked towards my dorm.
While walking in the hallway, I suddenly felt someone bump into me. As she began to fall, I reached out and caught her before she hit the ground.
To my surprise, it was none other than my classmate, Naomi. She looked slightly embarrassed as she steadied herself.
It seemed that Naomi had been busy talking to her friend, not paying attention to where she was going.
As Naomi stood up, her face wrinkled up into a fake disgusted expression. "Ugh, watch where you're going, creep," she said, her tone laced with mock annoyance.I silently wondered if she was trying to be funny, as it was clear that she had been the one who had bumped into me.
One of Naomi's friends joined in the conversation, saying, "Hey, you should be more careful when you're walking in the halls. You could get hurt." Her words echoed in my mind, but I struggled to understand why they were directing them at me when it was clear that Naomi was the one who had bumped into me.
I sighed, feeling a sense of resignation as I replied, "I will. Thank you."
It seemed like the appropriate response in the moment, even though I couldn't help but feel a sense of injustice at being blamed for something that wasn't my fault.
Naomi scoffed, looking away as she muttered, "That's what I thought. You should learn to respect those who are above you," her words stung, adding fuel to the already awkward conversation.
As Naomi and her friend began to walk away, Naomi suddenly stopped and turned to me with a glare. "Oh yeah, stay away from me, you freak," she spat out, her words dripping with disgust.
I stood there, utterly baffled by the turn of events. Why was I being targeted for something that wasn't my fault? The confusion and sense of injustice only fueled my desire to get to the bottom of this situation.
As I watched Naomi walk away with her friend, I couldn't help but feel a sense of confusion. "What a way to ruin a day," I muttered to myself, my mind racing with thoughts about the strange encounter.
As I sat alone in the cafeteria later that day, my gaze wandered across the room and landed on Naomi and her friend laughing and chatting over their lunches.
They were not too far from here. The scene seemed so surreal, especially considering the way Naomi had treated me earlier.
I couldn't shake off the lingering feeling of confusion from our earlier encounter. Seeing them seemed to intensify my curiosity about why they had targeted me in the first place.
Suddenly, Naomi catches my gaze, and her expression immediately hardens. "Ugh, look who it is," she sneers. "That creep who bumped into me earlier."
Her friend chimes in with a condescending tone, saying, "Yeah, I don’t know why he’s looking over at us. He should probably mind his own business."
Naomi turns her attention directly towards me and glares with a cutting intensity. "I told you to stay away from me, didn't I?" She snaps, her tone laced with anger and irritation. "Don't you know it's rude to stare?" she continues, her words dripping with condescension. "Or are you too stupid to know that?"
