For 2 days now, Trolberg has been under massive snowfall. The school was closed after a hailstorm cracked and broke several windows, just in time for a blizzard to fill up the classrooms! The main streets were barricaded after it became too slippery for cars. Even trolls were helplessly sleeping under the snow or hiding in caves.

Hilda woke up, made breakfast and went back to her room. First she sat in the bed, then she tried to read some book Frida had left back there (Hilda thought that a witch biology book shouldn't be talking about chloroplasts) and then she tried to have a conversation with Alfur, who was busy writing one of his reports.

Hilda went into the living room to see what would be on TV at 10:00PM - That is, what would still be able to somehow run, because the TV and radio buildings weren't all spared either. "Heavy snows in southern Trolberg [static] .... Due to damage to the central street... pensions cut by 12%.. - the building... Head doctor of Trolberg... Eric Ahlberg asks the municipal council for additional funding for creation of snow ditches and... a Marra has been found.. frozen [static]..."

Were there really people who watch pre-afternoon TV every day, even on normal days?

Hilda almost fell asleep on the couch but that got interrupted when Johanna looked through the window and exclaimed: "Oh my god! the car!".

Hilda walked to the window, only to see that the emergency snow cleaners had crashed into Johanna's car with their tractor. Johanna put on her coat and went outside to give the driver a piece of her mind. Hilda watched through the window how Johanna struggled to push the apartment door open and then almost slipped on the sidewalk ice. She couldn't hear what they were arguing with the driver, but going out seemed to make her more empathetic to the situation. Joanna returned inside.

"Hilda, could you please boil the water, please?" she asked.

Hilda complied.

"So mom, what are we planning to do about the car"

"The Governor's office has to compensate. Maybe we can get a better car"

'How does mom of all people keep an optimistic mind about this situation' Hilda thought to herself.

"Mom, maybe we can play a boardgame or something?"

"I have to work, sorry, Hilda".

Hilda scoffed and was about to go to her room, when the house phone rang.

"Must be a client" Johanna exclaimed and rushed to the phone, "Never mind, it's David".

'Finally!' Hilda thought and picked up the phone.

The signal was sort of weak at times, but it wasn't actually that bad, considering the circumstances.

"So David, how are you today?"

"Bored i guess"

"Have you heard from Frida yet?"

"Remember how her parents found the experimental potion bottles"

"Yeah.."

"They grounded her because they think it's homemade wine"

Hilda laughed, knowing she shouldn't

"Well... that sucks"

"Yeah, and they think you are involved too.. Just didn't want to bother the ''Desperate single parent'' during outages, don't let her hear of it."

"Still thinking with a bell up their ass, huh"

Hilda wasn't stressed about hearing this but some times ago Johanna had already proposed seeing therapy for her. This really couldn't reach her.
