Wen Ning sighed with relief when he saw Lan Wangji's silhouette approaching him. He was beginning to feel dizzy, and despite his best efforts, the blood was still flowing.

Lan Wangji approached him and used his power to heal him.

-Thank you.

-Please don't say anything. I'm going to take you home.

-Are you going to look for Wei Wuxian?

-Of course I'm going to get Wei Wuxian.

-Then take the weapons and hide them in the water first. That way you can leave straight away.

Lan Wangji looked at the bundle of weapons Wen Ning had prepared earlier.

-Thanks for your help. We'll owe you one day.

-You'll repay me by going to save Wei Wuxian.

Lan Wangji didn't reply. He took the weapons and hid them by the water, outside. Then he picked up Wen Ning and took him home, as promised. The wounds had healed and he was going to be fine. When Lan Wangji left, Wen Ning couldn't help but smile. He had already seen the extent of Lan Wangji's power, so he had confidence in him.

When Wei Wuxian woke up, his arms were chained above his head. He barely had time to regain full consciousness before the door opened. The chief who had arrested him before entered and approached Wei Wuxian. He knelt down facing him and took hold of his face. Then he brought his hand down and touched his neck, where the gills were. Wei Wuxian shuddered at the contact and tried to pull away. The policeman finally tightened his grip.

-Don't move!

Wei Wuxian didn't respond, but stopped anyway. He had no reason to be afraid. Lan Wangji would come for him soon. Then they would make sure Wen Ning was all right and leave.

He was jolted out of his thoughts by the policeman pulling a small knife from his pocket. Wei Wuxian's eyes widened. He took a step back.

-What are you going to do?!

-I'm going to take a few scales, nothing more. I didn't have time to do it with the other newt last time, so I'm making up for it today. Don't you dare move, unless you want me to accidentally stab you.

-Shut up, leave me!

Wei Wuxian struggled, to no avail. The policeman approached, but before he could do anything, he fell to the ground. Wei Wuxian looked at him in shock: he was unconscious. When he looked up, he saw Lan Wangji standing in the doorway, a taser in his hand.

-Lan Zhan!

Lan Wangji approached and freed Wei Wuxian with his usual strength. Wei Wuxian rushed into his arms like a koala.

-Quick, we have to leave. The police outside will eventually find me.

Lan Wangji carried Wei Wuxian like a bride and returned to the corridor. He found a window and ran to it. But behind him, several policemen arrived, and Wei Wuxian heard a gunshot, followed by Lan Wangji grunting. But Lan Wangji didn't slow down and kept running. He climbed out of the window and fled into the open sea.

When they reached the beach, Lan Wangji gently placed Wei Wuxian on the sand. The weapons were there, and Wei Wuxian realised that Wen Ning had given them to Lan Wangji earlier to avoid wasting time.

Just as Wei Wuxian wanted to speak, Lan Wangji dropped to the ground, trembling. Wei Wuxian walked over to him.

-Lan Zhan? What's the matter with you?

Wei Wuxian suddenly had a big doubt. He walked over to Lan Wangji's back and saw a bullet hole in his lower back.

-They've hurt you!

This remark was actually more of an exclamation, because Lan Wangji knew very well what had happened to him. He took Wei Wuxian in his arms and moved his gaze away from the wound.

-It's nothing, I'll look after myself once I'm in the water.

-No, there's no time! It'll get infected! Have you got a lighter?

-Why would I have one?

-Shit.

Wei Wuxian began to panic. Lan Wangji suddenly had an idea.

-I can canalise the wound until we get back. Once we're back in Gusu, I can be treated.

Wei Wuxian sighed and nodded. Finally, the two took their weapons and entered the water.

Before diving too far into the clear liquid, Wei Wuxian looked back. He probably won't be back on land for a long, long time.

When they arrived, two members of the Lan clan took charge of Lan Wangji, and Wei Wuxian presented the weapons one by one to an assembly of important people. While they were on the surface, the great figures of the three clans Jiang, Lan and Nie had gathered together. Thanks to Lan Wangji's magic bag, which enabled him to take away a considerable amount of material, the booty was high and many newts could be armed. After that, the sect leaders drew up a plan, and the meeting came to an end.

Wei Wuxian wanted to go and see how Lan Wangji was doing, but as he entered the corridor, someone pulled him into a room. It was Jiang Cheng. He looked worried and even closed the door behind him, then turned to Wei Wuxian, looking serious.

-Brother, I need to talk to you.

-I understand... What's going on?

Jiang Cheng looked away and seemed reluctant to speak. Wei Wuxian said nothing and waited, letting him take his time. After a while, Jiang Cheng finally began.

-Wei Wuxian, did Lan Wangji tell you the rumour about me?

Wei Wuxian's eyes widened.

-Yes, why?

Jiang Cheng looked down in shame.

-Well, the rumor is true.
