A/N: this chapter is kind of different, and I honestly don't really know what to do with this story.

(Nick's P.O.V.)

"Est?... Esther?... Esther, what's wrong?" I asked turning in bed to face my crying wife.

"It hurts."

"It hurts? Esther, babe, what hurts?"

"Everything!"

"I'm calling for an ambulance, just hang tight."

I quickly dialed the number and told what was going on. Normally, I wouldn't make such a big deal over sickness, but with Esther's medical past and pregnancy, I'm not taking any risks.

"Nick... the baby... he's hurting me."

"What? How?"

"I don't know... he's... oh my gosh."

"The paramedics are coming, just hang on there."

"Nick, something's wrong."

"Esther, what is going on?"

"I... I... I'm not sure. He just stopped, Nick! Something is wrong with the baby! I can feel it."

"Hey, hey, calm down, the paramedics are here. You are going to be alright."

We talked to the paramedics, relaying everything that just happened as they got Esther on a stretcher and out to the ambulance.

I waited what felt like days but was actually a hour outside Esther's hospital room before a doctor came out.

"Nicknames Winslow?" He asked looking around the room, I arose as he walked over to me, "Your wife was right, something was wrong with the baby. We aren't sure yet what is causing the problem, but I'm afraid the only way to give your child a chance at living is an emergency c-section."

"Their's nothing else? He'd be so early."

"I know, we've contacted your wife's doctor, she should be here very soon to perform the procedure. Dr. Mills said Esther is only 26 weeks along?"

"Yes, will the baby have a good chance of making it?"

"I don't know, he will be premature and you just never really know with children born that early."

"I understand, can I see Esther?"

"Yes, she knows about the c-section already, but we'll be prepping her for surgery in 5."

"Okay, thanks." I replied walking into Esther's room.

"Hey." She said trying to smile.

"Hey, I... I... I don't really know what to say... I hate this, I can't do anything to help you. I'm supposed to protect you, and... and I can't."

"Not everything is in our control in life Nick, something's we just can't protect one another from." She inhaled as a tear ran down her cheek.

"I know Esther, it's a lot to take in, but... but it'll all work out."

"Everything goes the way God intends it to, he is the giver and taker of life. We can't lose light of that."

"Excuse me, I'm going to have to ask you to leave." A nurse told me as she walked in.

"I know, I love you Est." I said kissing my bride.

It's been a hour since they took Esther, because of the sensitivity of her unknown condition they wouldn't let me stay with her, which really bums me out. I've taken this time to contact church staff and posted something on Esther's blog asking for prayers.
