"Are you? Are you one as well?" I asked, realisation dawning on my face. It was unbelievable, all the times I thought it impossible for someone to like me. I thought he was unnaturally good looking. He is Unnatural.
"Yes." He stated, looking awkward. I felt bad for Norman, this was clearly quite painful for him.
"Well...Uh.... You..." I stuttered, trying to find the right words to explain that I don't mind, as he is the only one that actually likes me here. He turned away from me, looking disgusted, but I didn't know whether he was disgusted at me or himself. The tension was seeping through my body, and if I didn't look into his almond eyes soon, be reassured by his calm nature, I was sure to collapse. As I was about to reach out to him, ask him to turn around, I zoned out, into another, more fuzzy place. Another vision. A blonde man was approaching the Asylum, he pauses, breathes in and smiles. His black irises seem to darken his pale face. Pulling his pale thin fist back, he launched it into the door, snapping it in half, and off its hinges. The vision swam out of my view. I looked up and saw Norman staring intently down on my face, worry clouding his smooth face. I thought he had better know.
"Norman." I stated looking strait into his eyes. "It is too late. He almost here. We don't have time to leave." I kept eye contact as I watched it sink in. Before I knew it, he had broke eye contact and strode to my door and snapped it open."Norman-" He put his hand up to stop me from speaking. Then, suddenly, a curious sensation came over my body. It felt like I was flying. Before I had had a chance to enjoy it, it was over. I looked around and the light burned my eyes. It had been a while since I had seen this kind of light, that I was out of my cell. I realised that I was at the opposite side of the Asylum. "Norman, how-" But he held up his hand again to stop me.
"Mary, listen, he is coming and I think he is coming for you. I will protect the best I can but I am old, and he is young. He is stronger than me and may be able to fight me off, but I will try my damnedest to protect you. There is one thing, one thing that might save you, but also might cause you immense pain. If it comes to that, please Mary, don't think any worse of me." He pleaded with me.
"But-" I was interrupted once again.
"Mary Alice Brandon, please, please give me your word that you will not think any worse of me."
"I give you my word." I told him, I wanted to say something else, but a colossal bang echoed throughout the Asylum and I knew it had begun. Norman roughly shoved me behind his body, covering my whole petite frame. I wanted to look round, but I was scared out of my wits, and rooted to the spot. I heard the sound of feet running in this direction, but it sounded sped up, too fast. Norman ran forward, explaining the sped up feet noises, vampires can run fast. Very fast. I was left standing with my back against a wall, watching the door Norman had charged towards. This door also slammed off its hinges, like the one in my vision. The blonde haired man strode casually into the room, stopping at the sight of Norman, blocking his way. For a split second, I thought he was going to leave, but after a moment of looking shocked, even slightly scared, he guffawed in laughter, rumbling the walls of the room.
"You think you can stop me. I am a new vampire, strong and could overpower you in an instant. You are stupid for trying to protect, This." He jabbed a white bony finger at me. "This mere human. You are going to die because of a mortal. If you leave now, you can be spared." He moved his bony white finger to point at the door.
"In. Your. Dreams." Norman stated. Then he charged. I watched Norman run at the blonde, knocking him temporarily off his feet. The blonde slammed into the stone wall, leaving an imprint of his body on it. Wiping himself off like nothing had happened, he swung round and grabbed Norman's arm. Swinging him he launched him into the opposite wall. Norman also left a dent. Norman tried to grab me, but the blonde slammed his fist into Norman's wrist, leaving a knuckle mark there. Norman growled in a threatening way, but again, blonde laughed.
"You want to kill me old man? Just try it, but I will kill you. James will destroy the old man!" He said the last bit to himself. They both ran at the same time, jumped and slammed into each other. Norman was losing. He was going to die. For me. I felt a pang of emotion rising in my chest. Then I felt a scream rising in my chest, but it wouldn't come out. A hand had just flown towards me. A real human hand. In front of me. I looked up and realised something that I wished I didn't. It was Norman's hand. He was now sporting a stump for an arm rather than that of a normal human, he lacked a hand. Shudders roll down my spine, when a cold hand rests on my shoulder. I gasp. It was Norman, but not how I remember him. His kind, compassionate face was gone and replaced with an angry yet tortured face. For the first time in my life here, he scared me. James, the blonde, was not in sight, but a large, James shaped hole was in the wall.
"I'm sorry Mary, but it had to be like this. He wants you..." He glanced over to the James shaped hole, "so I am sorry for all the pain this causes." He met my eyes, then started to move his head torwards me. At first I thought he was going to kiss me. But how wrong I was. He bit me. At first it only stung. Then it felt as if my neck was on fire. I screamed. A pained, torturous scream.
"Forgive me Mary..." I felt on the brink of consciousness. Then I heard a blood curdling scream emitting from Norman's mouth. A leg flew towards me. I gasped then fell into unconsciousness.
