The pitch black clouds swirled around in the storm blue sky , droplets of water fell from the sky , drenching anyone between the distance of the ground and the sky .
He silently ran a hand through his hair , watching the red flames grow higher and higher as he watched the trees burn down from the strike of lightning . Nightmare shook his long curls out of his face , narrowing his red eyes . He didn't know why he liked this so much , watching a place inhabited by so many people over the centuries , the number of stories whispered by the wind , all the voices that rang through the woods , be swept away in a fire . He turned to stare at the other person beside him , his humming could be heard over the roar of the flames . Sage 's emerald eyes were fixated on the forest fire , watching the fire consume everything in its way . A slightly sad smile was on his face as the destruction continued . His gentle hands laced around Nightmare's , causing a slight red tint to appear on his face . He didn't exactly know why , but he found himself loving everything about the Nightmare King . To him , it didn't matter how many times he slaughtered the others , the number of times he made scars appear on Sage's arms . He only had eyes for the little good that Nightmare had in him . He didn't realize he had been staring when Nightmare nudged him . ' You alright ? You looked like you had zoned out . ' Sage nodded in embarrassment . A subtle silence settled between the two of them when Nightmare suddenly spoke . ' Sage , you know that if you'll stay with me , you'll die , right ? ' His eyes were not meeting Sage's , who smiled softly and spoke . ' Indeed , I know . '
' Then why did you choose to stay ? ' He blurted out , immediately looking away from Sage , when he finally got the courage , he turned back to look at him .. Sage's emerald eyes had gone to a melancholy onyx color as he spoke in a wistful voice . ' For I know i'll die , before you finally have the courage to kill me . ' The words felt fatal to his flesh , Nightmare felt as if his heart was being ripped apart . ' Damn .. ' ' Hm ? ' ' They were wrong about the green kingdom's people being harmless , you pierced through me like an arrow . ' He muttered , causing Sage to go red in embarrassment as he realized what he had done . ' Oh , I'm sorry I didn- ' Nightmare raised a finger up to his lips , silencing him . ' Don't apologize , it's alright . '
The light illuminated their faces as Sage's worried features softened , he hugged Nightmare and swiftly kissed him on the cheek , this time it was not he who went red .
' You're so funny to me , Nightmare . '
