The days leading up to the final exam at the academy were always tense, but today was different. An eerie sense of danger clung to the air as I sprinted through the streets of Konoha.
The sun was setting, casting long shadows that seemed to reach out and grab at me as I ran.
My breath came in ragged gasps, my heart pounding in my chest. I could feel eyes on me, the whispers of villagers following me wherever I went. I darted down a narrow side street, hoping to lose my pursuers in the maze-like alleys. Sweat dripped down my forehead, stinging my eyes. I wiped it away with a trembling hand, trying to stay calm.
"Not today," I muttered to myself, turning another corner. I could hear the footsteps behind me, growing louder. Panic surged through me, but I forced myself to keep moving. "Just a little further..."
I turned into an alleyway, hoping it would lead to another street. But my heart sank as I realized it was a dead end. The walls loomed high on either side, and there was no way out.
"Not again," I breathed, my pulse quickening. The footsteps were almost upon me now. When I turned, a mob of villagers blocked my only escape. Their faces were twisted with hatred, and among them were a few shinobi, their expressions even more menacing.
"Finally cornered you, demon!" one of the villagers spat, his eyes gleaming with a violent satisfaction. "You'll pay for all the pain you've caused!" another screamed, brandishing a knife.
I backed up against the wall, my mind racing. Panic surged through me as I desperately searched for a way out, but there was none. The mob closed in, and I knew there was no escaping this time.
"Come on, think!" I urged myself, but it was too late. The first blow landed, a kick to my gut that knocked the wind out of me. I doubled over in pain, but the assault was just beginning.
Fists and feet rained down on me, each blow more brutal than the last. Knives sliced my skin, and the pain was unbearable. I tried to scream, but a kunai to my throat silenced me, tearing through my voice box.
"Serves you right, you monster," a shinobi sneered, twisting the blade. "That's for my parents, you filthy beast."
Why? Why me? What did I do to deserve this? The questions echoed in my mind as the assault continued. My body was healing from the wounds almost as quickly as they were inflicted, a mysterious power at work. But the beatings were relentless, and my regeneration couldn't keep up. I was losing too much blood.
"Is this it? Am I really going to die here?" The thought was strangely calming. Amidst the chaos, a villager aimed a kick at my head, and in a desperate act of defiance, I bit down on his leg. He howled in pain, and I smirked through the blood and agony. But my defiance only fueled their rage, and the beating intensified.
The mob was a blur of fists, feet, and knives. I felt bones break, skin tear, and blood flow. My vision was blurring, the edges darkening. But through it all, I could hear their taunts. "Demon brat! This is for all the pain you've caused us!" "You should have never been born!"
The words cut deeper than any knife, each one a reminder of the hatred I faced every day. I tried to stay conscious, to keep fighting, but my strength was fading.
Suddenly, a blinding yellow light exploded among the villagers. The blast killed some and injured others, forcing the rest to back off. "What was that?" one of the shinobi shouted, eyes wide with shock.
Before anyone could react, another beam of yellow light flashed, and another explosion followed. The villagers and shinobi were thrown into chaos, some fleeing in terror. The remaining shinobi turned towards the source of the attack. "What's that? I've never seen clothing like that before..." one muttered, bewildered. "Attacker!" another shouted as the villagers charged the mysterious figure.
Bleeding out, I watched as the figure radiated electricity, a casual smile on his face. Another beam of yellow light, and another explosion tore through the crowd. The figure moved with incredible speed, disappearing and reappearing in flashes of electricity, leaving death in his wake.
"A person with the power of an S-rank shinobi? Why would someone like that defend the demon brat?" one of the shinobi wondered aloud, horror dawning on his face. "He's lost too much blood," another shinobi said, glancing at me. "Our job is done. Let's get out of here."
They didn't get far. The mysterious figure extended his hand, and the retreating shinobi exploded in a burst of electricity, their bodies torn apart.
"Serves you all right, bastards," I thought, smirking through the haze of pain and blood loss. My vision was blurring, and I felt my consciousness slipping away.
"Wow~~ It looks like our ancestor is in a happy mood even though he's at his deathbed?" The figure's voice pierced through my haze. "Ancestor?" I tried to focus on the man speaking nonsense. My vision was too fuzzy to make out details, but I could feel the cold creeping over my body.
The figure touched something on his wrist, cursing softly. "Shit! Did they find me already? Alright, No choice. I was going to come here earlier to teach you how to use this, but we'll have to improvise." He pulled out a strange device and knelt beside me.
"I guess I should hurry; you're almost dead, huh." He grabbed my neck and stabbed me with the device. "I'm the one injecting it. It's kind of making me cringe..."
A strange warmth spread through my body. "There, all done." He bent down to my level, smiling. "Hey, ancestor Uzumaki-Namikaze? Please make sure to succeed and make this descendant's life easier, okay?"
He stood up, electricity crackling around him. "This nano machine is the latest version, so operating it should be simple enough. Good luck learning how to use it." He smirked and vanished in a flash of electricity.
"What kind of nonsense has that strange guy been blabbing on about?" I muttered between ragged breaths. Suddenly, a voice echoed in my head.
'Serial Number... 034-4532-5893'
"Huh? There's a strange voice in my head..."
'Sky Corporation, 7th Generation Nano Machine, Starting Activation.'
My eyes widened as I realized what was happening. "What... What is this?"
And then everything went black.
