Sucessors

Who are they? Are they clever predators, who control our life, or are they protectors, who shield us from harm?

I'm still figuring that out, after 17 years of harsh winters. My family and I are barely scraping by. I have 2 little brothers and a little sister. Both brothers are 12 this year.

My little sister though, is five. She is the cutest sister ever. Our family has been making weapons ever since I was born. But now that the Sucessors are in motion, they took our weapons and materials. Leaving us to fend for ourselves.

That's why I need to become a Successor.

"Anise! Come convince Inna to get to bed. Anise!" My mother's hoarse voice called out to me. I dragged my tired legs towards our shack.

Yes, it's a shack. No longer that luxurious, spacious shop. No more cozy beds. Just a cramped kitchen area where my whole family sleeps.

Not even a kitchen, it's a shack I built 2 years ago. Well, alongside my dad. . .

My dad. Yes, that tragic timeline of his is absolutely time consuming. He leaves early for his lumber job in our domain.

There are 8 domains in total. Domain 1 took over weaponry and war planning. Domain 2 is in charge of fishing, hunting, and gathering berries.

Domain 3 farms. Domain 4 trains future government officials and soldiers. Domain 5, which is my domain, does woodwork, lumber, and is in charge of supplying the government.

Domain 6 creates clothing and is a giant animal sanctuary. Domain 7 are the messengers, merchants, and factory workers.

Domain 8, which is the closest to the core of our country. Domain 8 does mechanics, electricity, and machinery.

I'm out of town scavenging for food. I can't find anything though. The trash cans don't seem appealing though. I ran my fingers through the rocks on the walls along my way to the Hub, a place where only adults who are rich go to spoil themselves.

Children often aren't allowed submission here. I came only to provide my services. I glanced around. A deck of cards were being ripped apart by this drunk man. Someone was giving out liquor. I just rolled my eyes.

Alcohol isn't the most efficient way to earn money. But becoming a successor is. If I do, which is a really big if, I do become the 'legendary' successor, I would not be able to see my family till summer.

But once I do, I'll be respected, I'll have endless luxurious dishes of food to devour, and can support my family with the money.

That, is why I, Anise Greenward, need to become a successor.
