He ignores his brand new iPhone once more, knowing that soon his mother would lose it, and starts leaving him voicemails. He sighs at the thought, he just wants some more time before facing this new reality he'd be immersed for at least a decade. He had to leave his comfortable place, aware of the fact he postponed this exact moment for as long as he could.
He sighs again when his phone vibrates once, letting him know he got a text. He checks the sender and smiles when he sees the name.
You know there's no avoiding your mother, beta. Better answer before she stops calling altogether, we both know that wouldn't be good.
He chuckles at that, yeah, it would be bad. His phone vibrates again only once with a brand new text, and he almost drops it when he sees it is from his mother. She never texts, ever, so this is worse than what he expected, and a full grown ass man is truly scared of opening that one.
Last chance to pick up, sonshine. I'll have Markus tracking you down if I have to.
He chuckles at that, as well. His mother's passive-aggressive threats scare the shit out of him, but they are always delivered with so much love that he could almost be fooled. Almost. So, when his phone starts vibrating with the incoming call, he picks it up, bracing himself.
"This is no way to treat your mother, I'll have you know. I'm extremely displeased, my only son having the nerve of ignoring my calls. You'd better not be in America still."
"I'm well, mum, thank you for asking. Yeah, I know you know I didn't wanna come, but I love you too much not to. Had a good flight as well."
"Don't give me sarcasm, young man. Have you fed yourself?"
"Mum..."
"Well, have you?"
"I'll go in a minute, yeah? Just landed a couple of hours ago and haven't flown in a while."
"Yeah, you locked yourself down in that farm of yours."
"Well, I wanted to settle down for a bit."
"Without a mate."
"Yeah, I enjoy my alone time, mum."
"When can we expect you? The girls are here already and we all want to see you, sonshine."
"I'll be there tonight, yeah? No need to bully poor Marcus to track me." His mother giggles at that, and he smiles. He loves his mum's giggles.
"I needed to make sure you were not in the other half of the world at this hour, dear."
"So you say." He snorts and she giggles some more. He has to give it to her though. Having your only son leaving home at the tender age of thirty years after being born, was no fun and games for a protective mother hen like his own.
"Love you, sonshine. We'll wait for you."
"Love you too mum." They hang up and he sighs again. He's always had issues with his wandering feet. His mum and baba tried to make him stay, but he wanted to see the world. He's turning three hundred years in a few days, which he supposes is still young for them, for him, for a vampire. He doesn't remember his parents fussing so much when Doni turned three hundred as well, but it could be that he wasn't anywhere near England, much less near Bradford at the time. It could be that she had already mated by then with Marcus, a funny and brave human she met in one of her trips and got her mark when they locked eyes, the initial of his name tattooed on her wrist and her initial on the nape of his neck.
She delivered the blow as carefully as she could, she told them the story when they got engaged. Marcus decided he wanted to be with her and that it was okay for him to be turned into a vampire.
