CHAPTER FOUR
As Beverly pulled up to her house, she got out of her truck in a hurry. She had about twenty minutes to get ready. She unlocked the door and rushed inside only to find that her house had been burglarized yet again. She took her cell phone out of her purse and called the police. "911 what's your emergency", a female voice answered and said. "My name is Beverly Davies and I live at twenty four fifty Northwest 24th street, and I had another break in" . she replied. "If you're in the house Ma'am, get out of there right away",the female dispatcher said; sternly. "Okay, I stepped in the front door and I noticed my place has been ransacked again", she said; worriedly. "We are sending a car now Ma'am, just get in your car and wait until units arrive". "Do you see anyone?", the dispatcher questioned. "No, I don't see anyone", Beverly responded; swiftly. She quickly scanned the living room area and saw the mess and she went back out the door again and straight to her car. She texted Amanda, the receptionist at the office and informed her she was going to be running late, because someone had broken into her house again.
As the police cruiser pulled onto the edge of her drive and parked. An all to unfamiliar feeling hit her. She had done the same thing not too long ago, but this time was different. "You called to report a break in Ma'am?" the officer asked; as he strolled slowly toward her. The other officer radioed the dispatcher to let her know they arrived at the call. "Yes officer, I did call you guys, someone broke into my house again, and I am not sure what's missing, but they did ransack the place again", she said; frustratedly. As the officers walked to the door, she followed behind them, curious to go inside as well to see what she was really dealing with. "By the looks of it Ma'am, whoever broke in is looking for something of value, the way the place is torn up it's clear they want something", he said;sternly. Just then the other officer emerged from upstairs, It's all clear, but it looks like we're gonna to have to call in another unit, we need to dust for prints, the upstairs is pretty bad", the other officer interjected. "Damn it, who the hell could be breaking into my home like this?" Beverly thought out loud. "I think you should call your alarm company too Ma'am, obviously someone is bypassing the system you have installed", the cop said lazily. The other police officer walked around and continued to look about the house. He took out his pad and pen and began scribbling on it. "Okay Ms-?" he asked; as he looked at her. "It's Beverly Davies, don't you guys have this information already from the other day?"she asked; sounding a bit irritated. "Well Ma'am this is new call and I have to write up a report on all calls". She stood there tapping her heel on the marble floor nervously.
She had answered all of their questions, as they wrote their report, and she stood by and watched them dust for prints and ended up putting on a pot of coffee for them. She called the Merry maids cleaning service, which she had on speed dial and scheduled an appointment for first thing the next morning, then she called her alarm company and they would be there bright and early as well. She was prompt with her shit, and she didn't like leaving things undone. Tonight she would check into a nice quiet hotel until her home was back in order. Hell maybe she might stay for a while longer until she felt safe in her home again. She didn't know who was breaking into her home, or if was a related or separate incident, but she was determined to find out. The police always took their time with small shit like this, but she would not sit around and wait for their findings. She thought about Teddy, and the pit of her stomach sank like a ship at sea. She knew at that moment, something was wrong. She would get to work and call his mother and begin her search for some answers and fast. The more time passed, she didn't hear from him the more worried she got. She packed a bag, and the police officers waited while she did so. She grabbed all of her important things, a couple of thongs, her perfume and toiletries. She grabbed her red bottoms, and her black suit, so she could change at the office. She locked up and left as the officers followed behind her, making sure she was safe. She looked in her rear view mirror as they turned down another street, and they were gone.
