SARAH'S POVWe got to the tower around fifteen minutes after we left the hospital. I didn't know if there were any Hydra agents left after the attack, but I didn't see any following us.
Steve parked in the garage and called to Jarvis to let us in. Jarvis unlocked the doors, allowing us to slip in with ease and get on the elevator.
When we arrived at the penthouse, everyone was gathered on the couches, laughing and talking about something. When Bucky caught sight of me, his face morphed into one of confusion and the conversation skidded to a stop.
"Sarah? Steve? Why are you guys here?" He asked, standing up and frowning. I opened my mouth to reply but Calypso let out another wail and he hurried over to me, taking her in his arms and quieting her down. He rocked her back and forth and looked to me for answers.
"Hydra found me." I replied, and he looked taken aback, before his eyebrows knotted together in anger.
"How the hell-"
"It was a group of agents wearing uniforms I've never seen before. I believe they were from a different country." I interrupted, and his frown just deepened. I decided not to tell them about Pietro and Wanda yet- I doubt we'd see them again any time soon, and we needed to first figure out where these agents came from. Suddenly Tony stood.
"If they are from another country, then I doubt it's a country allied with the U.S., and probably not a big country either. After the collapse of S.H.I.E.L.D., the government sent out a high alert for other major countries to destroy any Hydra bases they could find. They were found and obliterated. So any remaining bases would probably be in small countries that have fallen off the radar, and are therefore less likely to be discovered." He cut in, giving us actually helpful information for once. I nodded, looking around at everyone as we tried to think.
"I'll go dig up what I can find," Natasha said. She reached over and hugged me on her way by.
"I missed you. Glad to see you're safe," she whispered, before releasing me with a smile and heading to the computer on the kitchen table. Steve followed her.
Nat pulled up a list of countries that reported having no Hydra bases, and dug up old government Intel. We began sorting through it, looking for any sign of a cover up, or any buried reports of a Hydra attack. We were still looking through the old government documents when a bolt of lightning struck in the middle of a perfectly clear day, and suddenly Thor himself was standing on the balcony in a matter of seconds. His blonde hair was half up and half down, and his famous hammer was hanging from his hand.
It was pretty unexpected, to say the least.
Everyone stared for a few minutes before Tony hurried to the door, swinging it open for the mighty God and giving him a sour look.
"Really? NOW you show up?" Tony muttered, and many nodded their heads in agreement. Thor's wide smile quickly disappeared.
"I'm sorry?" he asked innocently, having no clue what we had been through. I realized that although I had been part of the Avengers for over a year now, I had never met Thor. He was a very large, very beefy guy.
"We've been taking down Hydra for almost a year now, without you. A new bad guy showed up and even Loki joined the party," Tony replied, clearly a little annoyed with Thor. I wondered why Thor had been missing for so long, because I've heard that he usually keeps very close tabs on his brother.
Thor frowned deeply, looking around in confusion.
"I had no idea. I am very sorry, my friends. Asgard has been trying to locate all the prisoners that escaped during a break in a few moons ago, and my father is still mourning my mother deeply. I should have checked in with Heimdall. And what is this about Loki being here in Midgard??"
Tony turned to Thor, crossing his arms.
"Loki came here and teamed up with this new bad guy, Crossbones. He attacked us a bunch of times and used his assholery to make a deal with Sarah that almost got her killed."
Thor looked around, glancing between me and Cara, as he didn't know which was Sarah.
"I'm Sarah," I said. "This is Cara, and this is John." I gestured to both of them, who were standing a few feet behind me. Thor nodded at us, then glancing at me.
"I am deeply sorry that I did not prevent you from being affected by my brother's antics. I should have been here in Midgard, where I would have been more useful." he told me, and I gave him a light smile and a shrug.
"I'm alive so I can't be that mad."
He returned the smile, glancing around the room. He stopped when he caught sight of Bucky, who was still rocking Calypso, not paying very much attention to everyone else. I walked over to him and glanced at Thor.
"This is Bucky, Cap's best friend. He's, uh...he's been through a lot with Hydra," I explained, placing a hand on Bucky's shoulder. I saw him cringe a tiny bit after what I said- a cringe only someone who knew him well would be able to see.
Buck lifted his head and smiled slightly at Thor, and the mighty God gave him a wide grin in return.
"It is a pleasure, Bucky," Thor said. Bucky nodded at him, looking back down at Calypso. I leaned over and gingerly took her tiny hand in mine.
"Who is the little one?" Thor then asked, and I glanced up at Bucky, opening my mouth to answer.
"She's ours," he said, beating me to it. I smiled at his choice of words.
"Well," Thor replied, "She certainly is beautiful."
--
A few hours later, I sat with Bucky in our old bedroom, completely exhausted. Natasha had offered to watch Calypso for a little while so we could get some rest, and we were lying under the comforter, arms around each other. We were so close I was unsure of where my body ended and his began.
It was the best feeling in the world.
His lips rested against my shoulder, absentmindedly running his hands through my hair. His eyes were closed and every now and then they fluttered open, glancing at me and smiling before he drifted off again.
Once more I was made fully aware of how completely in love with him I was.
My eyelids were heavy, but I was having trouble falling asleep. The Hydra agents finding me in the hospital, and discovering that I now had a child, unnerved me. And the mysterious twins made me curious. I wanted to find them again, learn more about their past. How Hydra found them. What was done to them. I also wanted to know how Hydra was able to find me; it's not like I posted my whereabouts on Twitter.
In the back of my mind, I feared that they would attack again. And currently I was in no condition to fight. I was still far too weak from labor and nine months of pregnancy to really punch, and I made a mental note to work on that tomorrow, maybe with Bucky like old times. I had a brand new person to protect.
The questions and thoughts I had in my head grew loud, each clambering for answers I didn't have. I simply sighed and nestled my head in the crook of Bucky's neck, drowning them out with the sound of his heartbeat.
