I felt the cushion beside me shift. Without looking up, I knew who it was. Agent Twilight. I've been his right hand woman for a while now, we had just finished up what I like to call a "Micro-Mission" and we were on our way back to Berlint. Twilight had a few loose ends to tie up before he left, so he put me on the train telling me he'd see me on it. The sudden shift in energy and the smell of black coffee was a dead giveaway to his whereabouts.
"Good afternoon." I say, putting down my copy of a rather childish book, The Second Summer of the Sisterhood, down on the table. Twilight chuckles before sipping his coffee.
"Despite it all, you still read stuff like this." He jabbed, opening the front cover of my book to read the inner sleeve.
"Yeah yeah. I mean, since this has begun, you've gone soft. You're no better." I quip. He closes the book and stares me dead in the eyes.
"But the fact is, you haven't changed."
"Am I supposed to?" I start to crack a smile. Despite the job, I've kept my childish demeanor. Twilight seemed to enjoy it. We're polar opposites, and that's the way we like it. I felt my phone vibrate against my leg. I pulled it out of it's holster and checked it.
"Who's that?" Twilight leaned over to get a closer look at my phone. The message was from Dimitrius Desmond, a friend of mine from school. Twilight rolled his eyes. "Communicating with the enemy, eh?"
My face flushes. "Lay off, would ya?" Still interested, Twilight rereads the message as I'm texting him back.
"Oh, so he cares about you? What's this about the movies this evening?" Twilight pursed his lips. I flush, and tear my phone away from him.
"Knock it off! I mean, this trip was spontaneous, I wasn't at school yesterday so of course he was a bit worried." I cross my arms. Twilight laughs and looks at his own phone. This time I lean over him to read his messages.
"Ooh, from Yorrie huh?" I wiggle my eyebrows at him. "How's she doing?"
"Good." Twilight replies, stoic as ever. That was his strong suit, not letting his emotions take over. I always wondered how he stopped the blood from rushing to his face.
"And Miss Anya?" I add on. Despite her being 6 years old, Anya was one of my best friends.
"Fine. I called the girls before I sat down with you. Anya was very upset with Yor's cooking. And before you ask, Bond is also fine. A 'good boy' as you would say." Twilight said, a small smile plastered on the usually stoic face. He was definitely going soft. Yor and Anya are his girls, and I couldn't help but believe I am too.
I slung my legs over his thighs, stretching myself out on the seat. Twilight sighed, resting his elbows on my calves. I didn't mind, neither did he. He just pretended he did. I laid my head on the seat cushion beside me and closed my eyes. I wanted to get home, I missed my bed.
