Maxine's POV~

"Ugh," I groaned.
I got up, showered, brushed my hair and teeth, then got dressed. Just some blue jeans, a white top, and black vans. I ran, quietly, downstairs, eating some yogurt for breakfast. I heard some shuffling and booked it out the door. I started my walk to school. I had to leave fairly early in order to get there and avoid my bullies. I had to take a secret path and it took longer than the normal route, so I had to leave earlier. Also, I hated being home whenever the step-monster woke up. I called my step-father that because he was a monster. Anyway, if he was hungover, he was fairly crabby and mean, so I wanted to avoid that. Right now, I'm nearing school. I walk in and hurry to my locker. I grabbed my books before one of the jerks could slam my hand in the locker. I quickly shut it.
"Well, well, well. Looks like Maxine here beat us today," Matt said.
"Yeah, and she knows how much we hate it when we do that," Gilinsky said.
"Meet us by the dumpsters after school if you know what's best for you," Taylor threatened.
They walked away and Nash slapped all of my books and junk out of my hands. Then, Johnson ran up to them.
"Sorry, my mom was running late," I heard him say.
I bent down to pick up my stuff. Then, some shoes appeared. I looked up and saw this kid, Austin. He was fairly popular. Anyway, he bent down and helped me.
"Why do you let them do this to you?," he asked.
"Because its just easier this way," I whispered.
We both stood up and he handed me my stuff.
"Thanks," I said as I turned and walked away.
"No problem," I heard him breathe out as I turned the corner.

I trudged to the dumpsters. This was going to bite. Why did they do this to me? Why? Whatever. Let's just get this over with. I walked there and found them waiting there.
"Looks like someone has decided to be obedient," Aaron said.
Aaron was all talk and no show, so he didn't scare me at all. Deep down I could tell he wouldn't hurt a fly, but he decided to be a verbal bully. Anyway, it went as my usual beatings went down. Two people held onto my arms while the rest punched me, kicked me, all of that nasty stuff. Then they let go of me and I would fall to my knees. That's just what happened.
As they were walking away, Johnson ran up.
"Bro, where were you?," Nash asked.
"Got stuck retaking a math test," he told him.
He gave me a quick glance, but then quickly looked away. They all walked away. I quickly stood up and walked away. It hurt my legs and stomach, but I had to get home in case the step-monster got off work early. I ran home and entered the door.
"Is that you Maxine?!," he slurred.
Crap. Crap, crap, crap, crap, CRAP!!!! I tried to silently go up the stairs, but he caught me. He grabbed my shoulder and turned me around so harshly that I fell to the floor.
"Where have you been?," he asked.
"I-I had to stay after school for a bit," I told him.
Technically the truth.
"LIAR!!," he yelled.
"B-but it's the truth," I said.
"No it's not! You were probably with some boys, you little slut!," he exclaimed.
