Maya's fingers danced across the keyboard of her grandfather's old computer, her eyes narrowed in concentration as lines of code scrolled across the screen. The room was dimly lit, the only source of light coming from the glow of the monitor and the faint moonlight filtering through the curtains.
"Maya, what are you doing up so late?" a voice called from the doorway. It was Alex, her best friend, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
"Alex, you won't believe what I found," Maya said, excitement bubbling in her voice. "I was going through some of Grandpa's old files, and I stumbled upon something incredible."
Alex shuffled into the room, curiosity piqued. "What is it?"
"It's a message from Dr. Reyes," Maya explained, her fingers flying across the keyboard as she pulled up the encrypted file. "He was Grandpa's colleague, you know, the famous scientist who disappeared a few years ago."
Alex's eyes widened. "You mean the guy who was working on that secret project?"
"Yeah, that's him," Maya nodded. "According to this message, he's made a breakthrough. Something about a Multiverse Portal."
"A Multiverse Portal?" Alex echoed, disbelief written on his face. "What does that even mean?"
Maya shrugged. "I'm not sure, but if Dr. Reyes thought it was important enough to send a secret message about, it must be something big."
As Maya decrypted the message, a rush of excitement coursed through her veins. The screen flickered to life, revealing a string of text that seemed to shimmer with possibility.
"To whoever finds this message," Maya read aloud, her voice trembling with excitement. "I have discovered the key to unlocking the mysteries of the multiverse. But beware, there are those who will stop at nothing to keep this knowledge hidden. The fate of countless worlds hangs in the balance. You must find the Multiverse Portal before it's too late."
Alex's eyes widened with wonder. "So, what do we do now?"
Maya glanced at him with a determined gleam in her eyes. "We find the Multiverse Portal, of course. And we save the world."
