This book is gonna be intense and depressing btw.
♡Clay pov♡
"Clay! You're gonna be late! Get up!"
I quickly sat up to the sound of my mom's yelling. I threw myself out of bed and went to my closet. I grabbed a white T-shirt and jeans and quickly put them on. I went to my mirror. I ruffled my hair and turned my back a bit.
I need a thicker shirt. I can see the scars.
I went back to my closet and grabbed a white sweatshirt instead. I put it on and ran out of my room. I went downstairs and into the kitchen.
"Where's dadddd." My sister groaned.
My mom pretended not to hear her. She smiled at me.
"Dear, you look great." She told me.
"Do I look great?" Drista asked.
"Hun, I already told you that you looked pretty." Mom replied.
"Can you take me to school today?" Drista asked.
Mom hesitated and handed us both plates.
"I-I'm sorry, honey. I really can't. I have to find your- I-" She cut herself off.
"Dris, I'll take you. I'll walk you to your class. How about that?" I asked.
She smiled and nodded. My mom gave me a thankful look.
Things have been hard with the move, and dads drinking is getting worse. My mom is so stressed out about all of it. My sister, Drista, is only seven, so she doesn't understand. We don't expect her to, though.
We finished our breakfast and said goodbye to our mom. We got our shoes on, and I grabbed my keys. We went to my car. I got in the driver's, and she got in the back.
"You excited for school?" I asked.
"I'm kinda scared. What if the other kids don't like me?" She asked.
"Dris, they'll love you. Just be yourself. That always works. You're good at making friends." I told her.
"You think so?" She asked.
"I know so." I replied, making her laugh.
We got to the elementary school, and I parked. I shut off the car, and we got out. She grabbed my hand as we walked across the parking lot.
I'm gonna be late for my first class.
We went in and went to the office.
"Hi, we just moved her a couple of days ago, and I need to know what class she's in." I stated.
"What's her name?" The secretary asked.
"Drista!" My sister yelled, making the secretary smile.
The secretary typed into her computer.
"She'll be in room 203." She told me.
I nodded, and we began walking. We arrived at the classroom. The teacher came over with a smile.
"Are you her father?" She asked.
"I'm her brother." I corrected.
"Lovely. Hi, Drista." The teacher said.
"Hi." Drista replied.
"Why don't you go join everyone else on the carpet?" The teacher suggested.
Drista looked up at me. I kneeled down to her height. I placed my hands on her shoulders.
