Amara was a goddess. Granted, not a very known goddess, but a goddess nonetheless. When your parents were the King and Queen of the Underworld, it was easy enough to forget you. No one came down there but the dead after all and Hades had made it perfectly clear that he didn't want his first born daughter anywhere near them.
But Amara was curious. Being the goddess of curiosity, it was hard not to be.
Amara had once asked her father how the dead arrived in the Underworld. Did they just appear ? Were their spirits led there ? Did someone bring them ? How did it all work ?
If she was to be confined to the Underworld, she might as well know how it all functioned. Her father had exasperatedly shook his head and dismissed the matter. Hades had then muttered under his breath, walking away, wondering how the god of the Underworld and the goddess of spring ended up with a daughter who was a goddess of curiosity.
Amara found thought it was rather obvious. Her own parents' pairing was so strange and unlikely that it was hard for anyone not to be curious. Naturally their first child would be a curious one. Literally.
Whatever the case of how Amara came to be how she was, the young goddess was always curious about everything. Especially how the Underworld functioned and how the human souls were brought there. Hades was extremely tight lipped about the entire subject. Even forbidding other denizens of the Underworld from telling Amara, including Amara's own mother.
The young goddess didn't really understand what he thought to achieve with this practice. Surely, Hades must realise that doing this would only make her more curious. Why did he not want her to know so badly ?
At the risk of it eating her alive, Amara took matters into her own hands. One day when her father was particularly busy with some issue happening in Tartarus, she snuck down to the banks of the river Styx and she waited. A soul had to show up sooner or later. There were always new souls coming in.
Amara quietly hummed to herself, face cupped in her hands as she anxiously looked around. She was just waiting to see how the dead arrived. Waiting and begging to have her curiosity satisfied. And she needn't wait too long.
Large gust of wind blew through. There was nothing at first and then...a man. He took a helmet off, letting it hang behind his neck thanks to a strap at the front. He was dressed in traditional white clothing and—
"Are those wings on your sandals ?" Amara tilted her head with a curious pout. The man blinked, turning towards her startled. The young goddess smiled sheepishly, pulling her dark hood off long ashy brown hair. "Hello."
"What..." he looked around, confused as to where she had just appeared from. "Where did you come from ?"
"My mother's belly," she said. "Like everyone else I would assume. Did you not come from your mother's belly ? Do you have a mother ?"
"I-um-I-I have a mother."
Amara smiled. "That's lovely ! What's her name ? What's she like ? Are you close to her ? Do you see her often ?"
The man let out a disbelieving and startled laugh. "Slow down."
"Sorry," Amara blushed. "I do that a lot. Drives my parents insane."
"Who are your parents ?"
"Lord Hades and Lady Persephone. Who are yours ?"
"Lord Zeus and a nymph, Maia." He tilted his head. "I didn't realise Persephone and Hades had a daughter."
"Not surprising," she shrugged, hugging her arms as she approached him. The man (or god, since yes, Amara had figure that he must be a god) curiously watched her. "I think only the people down here know me. I'm Amara." She held out her hand for him to shake.
"Hermes."
"That's a nice name," she beamed as he shook her hand with an amused smile of his own. "So you're the one who brings the souls here ?"
"I am."
"Why would Father not want me to know that ?" The goddess pouted thoughtfully. She couldn't think of a valid rea— "Oh."
"What ? Why would he not want you to know ?"
"Probably wouldn't want me to bother you with all my questions," she shyly looked away.
Hermes studied her with his turquoise eyes. "Ask your questions. I don't mind."
Amara lit up. "Really ?"
He nodded with a soft smile.
That was the first meeting of the Messenger of the gods and the Princess of the Underworld. But it most definitely was not the last.

Pari Speaks !
Blood of Zeus season 2 is here and I have a new fanfiction idea with my favourite character from the show (who happens to be my favourite god from mythology). Hermes !
As a Percy Jackson nerd growing up who is still a Percy Jackson nerd as an adult, of course I clicked on Blood of Zeus on Netflix and freaking loved it. The ending of season two y'all ! I need to know what happens next. So to tide over the wait while praying that Netflix doesn't fuck us over, I have started this story which ties into Blood of Zeus from season 2 onwards.
Amara is my soft girl and Hermes' secret wife. Can't wait to elaborate more on them.
I hope will all enjoy reading this as much as I'll like writing it ! Bye lovelies ! See you !
