Chapter fifteen

"We don't need another kool aid debacle."

Hanging out in the back, Diana was at the food table making two plates, one for her and one for Jeremiah, as she looked over seeing him sitting on the edge of the pool talking to Victoria, Conrad was in the pool with Nicole, while Gigi was standing over by Susannah the two of them laughing about something "my dad runs a hedge fund." Shayla said, which brought Diana back to the food table, where her and her entire family were standing "I'm not really sure what he does much more then that, but, geowing up, I always thought he worked on bushes." Shayla shared.

"I still think that." their mom said, laughing "and what do your mom do?" she asked her "mom. Come on, stop interrogating her." Steven told her "it's all right. She's at a wellness retreat in Arizona until August. Code for I need to get away from my family for a bit." Shayla shared "Shayla. You have to read this text. Come here." Gigi called out "duty calls but it was so nice to meet the both of you. You have really raised an incredible on. He's extremely respectful." Shayla shared "thank you." their mom told her, as Shayla turned walking off.

"What a rad girl, Steven." their dad shared, as Diana raised her brows "rad? Really, dad?" she asked him "yeah, ugh, don't say, rad, dad." Steven shared "don't..no, don't say that." Belly shared "no, I'm a rad dad." their shared, as Diana chuckled "please, stop." she told him "I like her. She's confident, knows who she is. I'm surprised a girl like that would want to deb." their mom shared, as Diana and Belly turned looking at each other, both feeling like their mom just called them unconfident and that they have no idea who they are, which she wasn't wrong seeing as they were only sixteen but it still hurt.

"Is there a place around here I can rent a tux for you?" their asked Steven, as Diana grabbed her and Jeremiah's plates "um.." Steven said "Steven, come here." Shayla called out "no. No. No. I've got it covered, dad. Thank you." Steven shared, as he turned walking off, Diana noticed Jeremiah was sitting next to his mom "I'm gonna go to Jeremiah." she shared, going to walk off "but I wanted to hear about this deb thing." their dad shared, as Diana turned to him "you already did cause according to mom it's for girls who don't know who they are." she shared "Diana, I didn't mean it like that." their mom shared.

"Actually, my cousin did it in Chicago and they raised a ton of money for public schools." Victoria shared "nobody asked you." Diana told her "Diana!" their mom and dad voiced, as Diana scoffed "whatever." she said, turning around and walking off, passing Shayla, Gigi and Steven and walking over to Jeremiah and Susannah, she put his plate of food down in front of him, as she sat down in the chair next to him and huffed "whoa, somebody doesn't look too happy." Jeremiah shared "well my mom pointed out that me and Belly have no idea who we are and my potential future step monster decided to add her two cents in on it when nobody asked." Diana shared, stabbing one of her strawberries.

"Well, your only sixteen, you have time to figure out who you are. Right now is all about having fun." Susannah shared, as she turned around, looking across the way at her mom and dad, she then turned back to her "and your mom probably won't tell you this but she's probably secretly enjoying the fact that you don't like Victoria, she just can't say it or show it cause it'll make her look bad so instead she's choosing to call you out on it." she shared, as Diana smiled at her "thanks, Susannah." she told her "anytime, princess." Susannah told her, as Jeremiah and Diana chuckled, continuing to eat their fruit.

Having finished their food, Diana and Jeremiah had gone inside finding Belly and Victoria at the kitchen island, making pomegranate margaritas like she said she would, where the two were sitting in front of them, as the blender was on, but soon stopped "that's dope." Jeremiah shared, as he looked to Diana, watching her roll her eyes, he smirked "how'd you learn how to make these?" Belly asked, as Victoria took the lid off the blender and picked it up "so I actually spent a summer in this desert town in Texas near the border called Marfa." she shared, pouring the margarita into the glasses.
