I saw him behind the doorstep and as he left without saying a word, my heart sunk into the ground. I thought he was going to follow me. Apart of me still hoping he'd turn around.
Young master arrived back home late from work and as soon as he got back, he went straight into his room. And as me and Ma Nge were about to serve him lunch, U Htee came into kitchen only to say otherwise.
"Oh ladies..., I'm sorry to say but young master already ate...."
"He did...?" Ma Nge said giving a downward smile.
"Yes he had a meeting with some guests and they ate together..."
"Oh.... Okay then... we'll clean it up U Htee... thank you for telling us..."
I immediately turned to grab apron while Ma Nge whined about prepping all morning.
"You spend hours for that pasta... such a waste..."
"It won't be a waste... you can finish if Ma Nge..". I said smiling to her.
That's when U Htee came back in looking for me.
"Miss Rose... Young master requests a lemonade or a fresh juice if it's possible...."
He rejected my lunch and now a drink?
At first, I thought of going against his order. Some pathetic girlfriend attitude seeping in, but then, I decided to oblige anyway. Half of my instinct worried that he might have had a bad meal and needed something to wash it down.
I made a lemon sorbet and handed it over to U Htee but he simply shook his head.
"Young master requested that you bring it to him..."
I frowned while Ma Nge obviously giggled.
"Oh.... Umm sure I'll do that", I replied heading to his room.
He was seen sitting on the tea table with some papers in his hands probably writing or signing over some things. The clothes he wore in the morning still hasn't been changed and yet he got his hair messed up by running his fingers through it. The papers must be bugging him in some way, because he hurriedly rolled up his sleeves while writing down, frowning.
I looked at him being stressed and thought something must really be bothering him. And all the thoughts about wanting to nag him for not eating lunch just vanished into thin air.
He only noticed me only after I reached a certain distance to him and might I say his face lit up by just seeing me come in.
"Rose.... What... what brings you here...?" He asked lifting up his reading glasses and pushing back his hair on his face.
"Lemon sorbet.... Just like you requested.."
"Sorbet..? I didn't ask for any...."
He paused and thought for a minute before finally laughing it out.
"Haha yeah... I'm sorry I definitely needs a refreshment..."
He took off his glasses before handing out to grab the glass. I also tried to hand him over the sorbet where our hands touched and he looked up at me.
A wave of flutter crossed over my heart but I only avoided his stare and turned around to leave the room.
"Rose wait....". He called from behind.
"Yes...??"
"I.... Uh I wanted to ask you something..."
He put down the glass where I turned back to him again.
