He took another step closer, grabbing my hand as I tried reaching for the door handle. " Thoma," the name made my gut twist, " he's missing."

He was gone. His bitter stab in the back did not hurt any less every time I thought of the incident. If anything,  him being gone would help me forget it. "Like I said," I pushed past him, yanking my wrist out of his grasp. " I have nothing for you. Knowing you, it can't be hard to find another one."

Making haste, I was out of that corridor in a matter of seconds and repeatedly kept pressing the elevator button over and over. Why would I care? I do not care. I should not. "Your guy was there," his voice reached me from where I stood at the end of the hallway. " You know that clingy ginger, rings a bell? Bet you'd be thrilled if Thoma gets hurt because of him, right?"

I swallowed. The dark thought crept in. " You naughty girl . . ." He was not far behind me, whispering mocking words, but I could still hear him. " You can't let it go, can you? So stubborn and so much self-loathing, you think I don't know you ?"

" You don't," I breathed.

" Oh, but I do, but you don't," he chuckled as he stood next to me while I repeatedly pressed the elevator button. " You're just like me, our meeting was a magical coincidence."

" I'm nothing like you, Ayato; we are completely different!" The second I had turned to him and the words left my mouth I knew I had said something foolish and had given him just what he wanted because the smile on his lips reached his pale blue eyes." I'm never. Ever. Ever! Getting back to you! No matter what!"

His eyes met mine, cold enough to make the hair on my skin shiver, and urged me to put more space between us. " I beg to differ," he looked over me, pushing me back against the closed doors of the elevator. " You will always come to me, do you wanna know why? Because only I know. I know how filthy you really are and every bit of your soul."

I did not. I also did not like the closing distance between us. The second his hand moved from behind his back, my first went for his gut, a hit-and-run that ended with me dashing the emergency staircase of the building. The thick and heavy door of the exit barely opened enough for me to slip through as Ayato's laughter echoed in the hallway, calm, smooth . . . And wicked. Why he wanted me . . . why he needed me. . . Did not matter. I just wanted to get away. Away from it all. Away from him. From the whole world. Just . . . Alone

The infinite flight of stairs seemed to never end with every step taken, spiraling down to the last floor that seemed to sink deeper and deeper into an abyss. " Come now my love, why do you always have to get so fussy when we talk?" Ayato's calm voice rang and echoed all around me, haunting me. " I'll take you both home once we both come to a civilized understanding. Reasonable, no? I'll be sure to remind you of all our very good times~"

I could hear the smirk in his voice and knew exactly what face he was making. " I know you well, just as well as I know my sister's name. You're gonna try running and hiding, but dear, you're mine. You'll come back on your own, but first . . . I want us to visit your little friend with your company of course . . . "

A rod, old and rusted, lay crippled near one of the steps where a small gap was visible between the columns that had formed the railing. I grabbed it in my rush, feeling out the rough texture as I continued down the steps, heart thumping loudly through my ears, getting more and more breathless and the ground floor becoming farther and farther away.

" Gotcha ~ " his breath tickled the frame of my ear as something snaked over my upper arm.

In my panic, I turned, swinging the rod, all while hearing the old metal tear through the exquisite fabric of his navy suit. Then my heart pounded into my ears, and my panting overwhelmed my senses at the sight of red wine spilling out of his center and splattering over the cemented floor. Ayato's body shuddered as he dropped a syringe from his hand, letting it fall and roll down the steps.  "W-well," he coughed, a small grin on his lips. " You do fight back. . ."

Slowly sinking to the ground, he held onto the railing, his face paling with every second. " You cruel angel," as he groaned sticky blood soaked into the fabric of his blouse, and stained dainty pale fingers.

I curled into a corner, metal rod in hand, the rusty brown of the rod now blended with Ayato's shade of red. "I told you to leave me," I did not know my voice, it was dry, hoarse even.  "You. . . You did this!"

He laughed. He laughed all the while choking on the pain in his gut and the blood reaching the corner of his lips . His hand left the gash in his gut, reaching out to me. My ears hurt, throbbed and teared , as the red liquid dripped from such shivering  and deathly pale fingers.  " Yes . . . I did it all and I am all I did  . . ." he mumbled gibberish as I scrambled to me feet, legs wobbling.

There should be an exit door to the nearest floor. . .

". . . Im the star of every show. . ."

Ringing filled me head, pulling at my vision and the world shaked. The stairs shifted, and blood dripped down the edge each splatter loud , the ground faded and returned under my feet.

" But it's not enough. . . Nothing is enough. . ."

I heard blurred voices, but mostly that voice. Cold . Tired. . . Insane. When would he ever shut up?

I crashed into a wall, forehead bouncing off the cement, the force shoving me down to earth. The blurred voices became clearer. I saw a hint of orange through my dying consciousness. Someone grabbed at my arm, and pain shattered through me. My screams . I could not hear them despite opening my mouth, and as my attention shifted slowly to the source of the pain. . . I saw it. A small hole was punctured into my skin. . and the blue liquid seeping through the wound.

" There you are," someone else was here .
