Soon, I felt him come very close to me. He gently adjusted my dupatta over my head and took the offerings from my hands.
But while doing that, what he whispered into my ear in his deep, husky voice sent a strange tingling sensation through my stomach.
"Aap jo kahengi, hum karenge... Par aapko kabhi kisi bhi cheez ke liye pareshan nahi hone denge. Kyunki aaj se aapki saari pareshaniyaan meri."
(I will do whatever you say... but I will never let you worry about anything. Because from today onwards, all your problems are mine.)
Keshavi, shayad tu galat thi... yeh waisa nahi hai jaisa tu sabko samajhti hai, my subconscious whispered to me.
(Keshavi, perhaps you were wrong... he is not like what you think everyone is.)
But before I could argue with my own thoughts, he spoke again,
"Kahaan khoyi hui hain aap...?"
(Where are you lost?)
I looked at him in confusion, and he gestured towards the offerings in his hand. I stepped closer, placed my hand over his, and together we handed them to the priest.
We offered everything I had bought from the shop—garlands, flowers, coconut, prasad, and finally the main reason we had come here... our lagan patrika.
Pandit ji performed the rituals, placing our lagan patrika near the feet of God. We folded our hands and prayed.
Bhagwan ji, please mujhe bataiye... jo main karne wali hoon, woh sahi hai ya nahi? Aur kya yeh sach mein dusron se alag hai, ya unhi ke jaisa hai?
(God, please tell me... is what I am about to do right or not? And is he really different from others, or just like them?)
I didn't know what he prayed for, but there was a faint smile lingering on his lips as he stood there. What could he have asked from God?
I was so lost in watching him that I didn't even realise when my staring came to an end—his gentle smile slowly turning into a sinister smirk.
Pandit ji handed us our lagan patrika along with some prasad and said,
"Aap dono hamesha saath raho aur khush raho. Aap dono ke jeevan mein bahut vipattiyan aayengi, par aap dono ko apni soojh-boojh se kaam lena hoga. Bhagwan aapko sabhi kathinaiyon se surakshit rakhein."
