Chapter One: Alone

*****************************************

Brooke's POV ❀

I sobbed for hours, thinking about how he had left so quickly, so arrogantly. I had made the stupid mistake of falling into the arms of another. He deserved to leave me, hopeless and alone like the useless person I was to him. I'll admit, he deserved the pain as well, since he had neglected me at the times I needed him most. He promised he would be there. Little did I know the promises I heard were lies...

*flashing back to 3 months ago*

It all began so quickly, I didn't expect it at all. I threw a party because it was Valentines day and the one time I actually had a Valentine. His name was Alan. Okay I'll admit, he didn't know he was mine but I counted it. We were the flirty type. He would flirt in class, and I would muck around responding with a smirk. We never went out, but I consideredb every flirt as a step in the right direction.

He was invited to the party as well as many of my other friends. We all had a great time, drinking and dancing to the music. Many times throughout the night, I could see out of the corner of my eye one of my friends who I'd developed feelings for a long time ago. Those crushing days were over, but he still held a place in my heart. I knew he had dated four girls in the past year, but did I let it affect me? No. Stupid mistake.

Ryan's POV ♰

I remember that one Valentines Day party. She looked so beautiful in that tight red dress. I had liked her for the past two months but wasn't yet ready to share my feelings. Every time I looked at her, I could feel my heart beating a million times a minute.

The temperature of the room increased by at least 40 degrees and I could feel my palms getting sweaty. I decided that this was the night. I was going to make my move, letting her know I was crushing and wasn't going to be turned down.

Sure, we had been friends for the longest time; we met in kindergarten for Pete's sake. She was always the nicest girl to everyone, but was always shy when meeting new people. We became friends quickly when we discussed episodes of "The Power Rangers." As we grew together as friends, I noticed her beauty and all her characteristics that made her so wonderful. Though, she was sinking too quickly into the sea of self-consciousness and the worst part was, I couldn't save her.

Little did I know that this one party would change our friendship forever.
