Izuku Midoriya POV
"Eri you're here?" I asked.
"She'll be staying in the faculty dorms with me. Her only family is in a coma and she can't control her quirk so it wouldn't be wise to send her to an orphanage. We'll all chip in to help, but she'll be training to control her quirk with me." Mr. Aizawa said.
"Great!" I smiled. "We can hang out a little more, I'm so excited!"
"One more thing, Midoriya, your mother called and asked for permission on your behalf to go home for a few days, apparently there is a family event she wants you to attend."
"Was the permission granted?" I asked.
"Yes. You'll be going home Friday afternoon and you'll return Monday morning."
"I see." I felt my smile falter and fixed it hoping Mr. Aizawa wouldn't notice.
"Is something wrong?" Of course he noticed.
"No. I'm just not sure how I feel about leaving school early for a family event, you know?" I tried my best to save face.
Friday afternoon came and I was told to pack what I needed quickly and escorted out to Shiro's car. I flashed a smile to Mr. Aizawa before getting in the back seat and buckling the belt. My smile faded as soon as the car left Mr. Aizawa's view.
"How has school been since living in the dorms?" Shiro asked.
"It's been fine, most of my time is spent in class or training." I said.
"Good, good. How are your grades?"
"My lowest is a B in math. Some of the equations are hard to follow."
"Study harder for that A. You wanna make your mother proud, don't you?"
"Of course, I do."
"I'll help you study tonight when your mother goes shopping." Shiro smirked. My breath caught in my throat knowing what was going to happen as soon as mom left the house.
Katsuki Bakugo POV
"Did anyone else think Midoriya was kind of off before he left?" Kirishima asked everyone in the common area.
"He was." I said. "I'm pretty sure it was Shiro's car that he got into."
"Who is Shiro?" Jiro asked.
"His mom's boyfriend."
"His mom has a boyfriend? What about his dad?" Kirishima asked.
"He died in a tragic accident overseas when Deku was little, I think five maybe six years old." I said. "I think it was two or three years after that when his mom met Shiro."
"So this Shiro guy has been in Midoriya's life for a long time now huh? I wonder why he was so off about going then." Ida said.
"What are you kids talking about?" Mr. Aizawa asked.
"Deku was acting unusual today, he just seemed off." Ururaka said. "Like he was scared of going away but didn't want to worry any of us."
"Was it his mom that called?" I asked.
"No, it was Shiro, the man that picked him up. I heard Mrs. Midoriya in the background of the call though. She was talking about how nice it would be to have Midoriya back home for a little while. Why do you ask?"
"I have a feeling something bad is going to happen." I told him. "I know I'm not the nicest person by any standard but something about Shiro has always given me chills. I can't place it and I don't want to accuse him of anything without proof."
"What are you thinking? It isn't an accusation, it's a feeling. What is it?"
"Abuse." I lowered my voice. "Deku is always different when it comes to Shiro. If he knows Shiro is around he's quiet, he doesn't mutter, he doesn't take notes, he acts like he doesn't exist. Deku hardly breathes around the man. He was acting off ever since he was told about going home, his grades and training suffered for it and it got worse today. What's worse is everyone noticed and no one said a thing to him."
"Since the forms were filled out and signed by both parties, there isn't anything we can do until Monday morning. If your feeling is correct, we'll keep a close eye on him when he comes back. I'm sure he won't admit it if we ask, so we won't. We'll wait for him to come to us." Mr. Aizawa said.
Eraser Head POV
"Abuse." My heart sank when he confirmed my own suspicion. Once the forms were signed my hands were tied. I couldn't stop him from leaving unless he told me to. His smile wasn't his own, it was lifeless. He didn't want to worry anyone, he never did. We all knew he hid his true feelings from us, he hid everything from us, only showing us his trademark smile and happy tears. Until he couldn't hide anymore, as soon as he heard he was going home the life drained from his eyes and his smile.
It made so much sense, he started changing for the better as soon as he moved into the dorms. His smile full of life, his grades skyrocketed, his training more efficient than ever, he genuinely seemed happier.
Why didn't I see it before?
