Shortly after Happy had dropped You and Tony off at the apartment the two of you and Briar went inside and dropped all your bags by the door before walking over towards the couch and slouching into the cushions with exhaustion from the time change and the flight.
"Man, I missed this. Don't get me wrong I had a ball in Malibu but nothing beats the skyline in New York." You spoke out loud with a relaxed sigh at the end of your statement.
"You're right about that, but we should probably talk about the whole text message in the plane." Tony turned his head to look at you from his seat.At first you couldn't read his expression until it had softened and displayed his concern to you.
"You're right, the topic from the plane." You turned your attention towards him and sat up straighter and turned your body to face him better to show him that he had your undivided attention.
"Sweetheart, Stane messaged me and said some stuff is going on with the company out of the country. I'm going to have to check it out and visit some sites that are doing weapon testing while I'm out there." Tony explained while reaching out and grabbing your hand and giving it a squeeze.
"I can come with you to help if need be. I mean it is technically a part of my job to assist you." You said and shifted your hand in his and held his hand.
"No, sweetheart. I can't take you on this one, unfortunately cause I really would love to keep you by my side for as long as possible but it's too dangerous and I'm not risking having you there if something does happen. He said he wanted me out there by Friday." He frowned at the idea of leaving home so soon after just returning.
"That's six days from now. What day do you think you'll be leaving then if you want to get there before Friday?" You asked slightly dejected that Tony is having to leave without having a break.
"I'll probably head out on Wednesday just to get over some of the jet leg. There's a lot going on over there, Honey and I can't risk something happening to you." Tony explained.
"But it's okay for you to risk your own life?" You asked, becoming slightly upset by the thought of him putting his life at risk without a second thought.
"This isn't my first rodeo. I have it under control." He pulled your hand towards him so you would slide closer to him.
"Promise me you'll be safe while you're away." You complied with his wish and slid into his side.
"I will. And I'll call every time I have the chance." He promised and planted a firm kiss on the side of your head.
"I'll hold you to it." You whispered and cuddled closer into his side.
After that night you and Tony went about life as normal until that Wednesday of his departure.
"Text me when you land or get to your hotel. Either or I just want to know you made it safely." You told him while he got out of the passenger's seat of your car.
"I will as long as it's not too late. You need your rest." He told you and walked over to the drivers side despite it being out of his way and opening the car door for you to step out.
"No matter what. I don't care if it's three in the morning. I can always respond when I wake up." You told him and stepped out of the car to give him a proper farewell.
"Okay, I will. I'll see you soon Sweetheart." He said and gave you a lingering kiss on the lips before grabbing his bag and tossing it towards the security guard that had come up to your car.
"I'll see you soon." You whispered as he walked away towards the jet.
(Tony's POV)
"How's it going Rhodey?" I called out to him as I got closer to the jet.
"I've been waiting for three hours Tony." He said blankly as I went up the steps.
"Can't blame the lady. She had no idea what time the flight was." I told him and shrugged, not really caring about how late I actually was since I wanted to spend as much time as possible with you.
"I suppose that's reason enough. So, when will I get to meet this chick that's stolen your heart?" He asked with a curious expression on his face now.
"When I want you to and not a moment before." I smiled and winked before taking my seat and pulling out my phone to keep myself occupied for the time being.
When we finally made it to the Kunar Province and was met with multiple military vehicles on the tarmac ready to pick me up, I felt somewhat grateful that I wouldn't be driving myself because I was exhausted but before I could have a moment to myself I needed to present a couple new products that I had for them.
" I feel like you're driving me to a court-martial. This is crazy. What did I do? I feel like you're going to pull over and snuff me. What, you're not allowed to talk? Hey, Forrest!" I said jokingly in hopes of keeping myself amused before the boredom knocked me out cold.
"We can speak, sir." The soldier beside me spoke.
"Oh I see how it is. It's something personal?" I responded with a raised eyebrow.
"No, you intimidate them." the driver said while remaining focused on the road ahead.
"Good God, you're a woman. I honestly... I couldn't have called that. I mean, don't get me wrong I fully support it. The future misses would be impressed too, heck she'd love to be here right now but I told her she had to stay back despite how crazy it is out here, am I right fellas." I said desperately trying to start a conversation with any of these people in the vehicle.
"I have a question." A soldier finally spoke up.
"Shoot, I'd love to hear it." I answered.
"Is it true you went 12 for 12 with last year's Maxim cover models?" He asked and I was taken by surprise.
"Well there were a few but I didn't do that. I actually behaved myself the rest of last year once Pepper said she was looking for other employment and I've been sworn off of other women after my girlfriend started working as my PA back in March." I cleared up knowing fully well what my past was like. Then the soldier next to him raised his hand in question.
"You're kidding me with the hand up, right?" I asked slightly dumbfounded by how nervous everyone was acting around me.
"Is it cool if I take a picture with you?" He asked and I couldn't help but laugh at his question not because I thought it was funny but because of how respectful they were towards me.
" Yes. It's very cool.  I don't want to see this on your MySpace page." I told him as he pulled out his phone and passed it to the soldier in front of him.
"Please, no gang signs. No, throw it up. I'm kidding. Yeah, peace. I love peace. I'd be out of a job with peace." I teased while the soldier held up a peace sign with his fingers.
"Come on. Hurry up. Just click it. Don't change any settings. Just take it." The soldier demanded.
Just as the picture was about to be taken the vehicle in front of us was hit by something and blew up.
I watched everything as it happened in slow motion almost, soldiers were yelling, gunshots firing in all directions and me being pushed in every direction possible.
"What's going on?" I asked in shock as the vehicle shook from the explosives outside.
"Jimmy, Keep Stark down!" One yelled as they saw the top of my head.
More soldiers were leaving the car to fight and finally Jimmy who was apparently protecting me got out as well to help on the outside.
" Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait! Give me a gun!" I yelled before he could go any further but stopped after he yelled at me to stay put, but unfortunately his valiant effort was in vain as he was gunned down almost immediately after he got out in the open.
My ears rang and my senses were dull as I tumbled out of the vehicle as my senses recovered before sprinting towards a rock for protection. I pulled out my phone and I could only think of one person to call and that was you, but before I could even press the dial button a bomb landed next to me with the Stark Industries logo on it and before I could make an effort to get up the bomb detonated and sent me flying through the air and I landed harshly on the ground gasping for air when a burning sensation shot through my body and blood began to darken my already black button-up dress shirt.
All I could feel was pain from whatever was happening to me and the memories of today's events that would forever haunt me. I knew I was screaming bloody murder but I couldn't hear a thing from the ringing in my ears and the searing pain in my chest. Something was happening and I had no idea what.
Hours, possibly days later I woke up in a dingy cot with a tube shoved up my nose which I promptly ripped out and reached for the cup of water that was beside me, but failed as I was stopped by multitudes of wires and the cup tumbling down to the dirt floor below.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you." A voice called from across the room well I guess a cave.
I didn't say a word, I just stopped and looked around realizing the wires that were connected to me were also connected to a car battery. I of course had the type of reaction any human being would have and ripped the shirt I was wearing off and saw that I now had an electromagnet embedded in my chest.
I was now well enough to get up and move around a small amount and found a spot in front of a small fire in the corner of the cave with a mirror studying the mental in my chest and on the other side Yinsen was preparing a meal for both of them.
"What did you do to me?" I asked out loud.
"What did I do? What I did is save your life. I removed all the shrapnel that I could, but there's a lot left in there, and it's headed into your atrial septum at this very moment." He said before continuing.
"Here, want to see? I have a souvenir. Take a look.  I've seen many wounds like this in my village. We call them the walking dead because it takes about a week for the barbs to reach the vital organs." He explained while pulling out a jar and tossing it over to me and I caught it with a grimace as I felt one of the stitches pull tightly against my skin.
I was still confused about everything and had asked what he had installed inside of my body and Yinsen was happy to inform me of the device that was currently saving my life.
"We met once, at a technical conference in Bern. Though I wouldn't expect you to remember because if I was that drunk I wouldn't remember my own face either. Heck I wouldn't have been able to stand, much less give a lecture on integrated circuits." He laughed.
"Yeah, I'm drawing a blank there." I laughed slightly embarrassed.
"Where even are we?" I asked after recovering from my embarrassment but was cut off once Yinsen hastily told me to stand up and put my hands up.
"Are those my guns? How did they get them?" I asked when I saw the soldiers enter our
"Do you understand me? Do as I do.  He says, "Welcome, Tony Stark, the most famous mass murderer "in the history of America."  He is honored.  He wants you to build the missile. The Jericho missile that you demonstrated. This one." Tinsel translated and held up a picture for me to look at.
"I will do no such thing. I refuse." I practically yelled out before they grabbed the hair on the back of my neck and shoved my head into a large bucket of water until I finally agreed to their demands, not that I had much of a choice to begin with.
(Y/N POV)
I sat there shocked by the video playing in front of me, it was Tony sitting with a canvas bag over his head and bandages covering his chest surrounded by soldiers holding Stark Industries firearms.
"Oh Tony, please be safe." I spoke to myself as I pulled out my phone and began making phone calls.
"Phil, I'm going to need some of your help. Tony's been taken." I told the man on the other end of the call.
"We're already on it, baby sis." Phil responded with determination in his voice, knowing fully well what the billionaire meant to you.
"Thank you. He really can be an idiot at times but he's my idiot. I should have just told him no and that I was going or neither of us would go." You told your brother as tears began to fall down your face at the gravity of the situation that Tony was currently in.
"That is true but we got this and we will find him, it's just a matter of time. I can promise you that and having you go or not wouldn't have made a difference besides worrying him more about your safety." Phil reassured you.
(Meanwhile with Tony on the other side of the world)
Over the next three months Tony and Yensin began preparing the Jericho Missile and the suit.
When the suit was completed Tony and his new companion had set the plan into motion.
"Okay, can you move well? Say the route again?" Yinsen asked while making adjustments to the suit on Tony.
"41 steps straight ahead. Then 16 steps, that's from the door, fork right, 33 steps, turn right." Tony recited once again but was cut off by a soldier shouting their names.
"Say something." Tony urged.
"I can't, he's speaking Hungarian." Yinsen spoke in a panicked tone.
"Well say something in Hungarian then." Tony quickly said while staring directly at the door where the banging could now be heard.
Yinsen yelled something back at the soldiers before they tried opening the door and right as they did the explosive was set off blowing a massive opening where the door once stood. Raza had been watching the whole ordeal and ordered every single one of his men to get down there. Just as Tony had Yinsen boot up the systems for the suit Yinsen realized that they wouldn't have enough time to escape if they didn't have some type of distraction so he decided that he was going to sacrifice himself to save Tony.
