Maxine's POV~

Vine. The App that saved my life. Well, kind of. It took care of my bullies. Through the App, they became famous and too busy to bully me. In fact, they didn't even pay much attention to me at all. Once in a while one of them would try to stop me in the hall, but I would just dodge them and keep walking. Apparently, they're going on this tour thing called MagCon. I don't know, I've just heard about it from some girls around the school. They were leaving next week and I would finally be free from them. The only thing I would have to be worried about is the step-monster. Anyway, right now school was out and I was walking home. Suddenly, someone pulled me aside.

"What the?," I said aloud.

I found myself face-to-face with Johnson.

"What are you doing?," I asked.

"Who did that to you?," he asked about the bruise on my face, which was now much, much smaller.

"I got hit in the face with a football," I said.

"No you didn't. My friend is your neighbor and he never saw you outside. You came home and then stayed inside all day," he told me.

Crap. Busted.

"Now, who did this to you?," he asked again.

"You want to know? Like, you really, really want to know?," I asked.

"Yeah," he said.

"My step-father and if you don't let me go, he just might kill me," I told him as I got loosed of his grip and ran off.

I ran into my house and up to my room, locking my door. I pulled out my razor and, well, you know. After that, I washed up and got to work on my homework. Later, the front door opened and slammed shut.

"WHERE ARE YOU?!," the step-monster called out, slurring.

Great. Drunk again. I decided to stay silent. I heard footsteps coming up the stairs. No! Then, he started banging on my door. He was yelling things, like: Let me in! I will kill you! You better let me in or else! He also started calling me names. I sat down in front of my balcony door and started crying. I covered my ears and started rocking back and forth. I quietly muttered stuff like: Please stop and shut up. Then, I heard a tapping sound on my balcony door. I opened the door quietly and walked onto the balcony.

Johnson's POV~

I was walking home when I noticed I was passing Maxine's house. I looked up and saw her rocking back and forth, crying with her hands covering her ears. What was going on? Oh no. She said her step-father had done that to her face. I had to help her. I ran over to her balcony and started throwing small rocks at the door. I heard it open and then she walked onto the balcony.

Maxine's POV~

"J-Jack?," I asked.

"Come on, you're coming with me," he said.

"N-no I'm not," I said.

"Yes, you are. Bring your backpack. You're staying with my family and I," he ordered.

"Fine," I sighed.

I went inside and gathered my books and backpacks. Making sure to cover up my scars real quick and putting some concealer in my bag.

"Catch," I told Johnson as I dropped my bag to him.

He caught it. I hoisted myself down and he helped me.

"Hurry," he said.

He pulled me along and we ran to his house.

"Mom!," he yelled as we entered.
