After He dropped me off at the hospital, I headed to my office, where I spent the morning attending to my patients. Just as I was getting into my work, a nurse arrived with a 3-year-old girl, who was crying and had visible injuries.
"Doctor, we found her standing alone outside the hospital, crying and hurt," the nurse explained.
I immediately went over to examine the little girl. "Hello, baby, what's your name?" I asked, trying to comfort her.
But she didn't respond, just looking up at me with tear-stained eyes. I tried again, offering her chocolate, but she remained silent.
The nurse chimed in, "Mam, I've tried asking her many times, but she won't say a word."
I reassured her, "Maybe she's just scared. Let's give her some time."
The little girl was dressed in a light pink frock with her hair tied in two adorable ponytails. I decided to try a different approach. "Seema, I have two chocolates. I'll eat one, but I thought I'd give the other to... actually, I think I'll give it to you instead, since she's not talking."
The nurse smiled, "Yes, Doctor, you can give it to me. I love chocolates."
Just then, the little girl spoke up in her baby language, "Neo, iee wuntt" (No, I want).
I was thrilled that she was finally responding. "Really, do you want it?" I asked, holding out the chocolate.
She nodded, and I handed it to her. As she took the chocolate, I asked again, "Baby, what's your name?"
This time, she replied, "Angel."
I was touched by her beautiful name. "Aww, that's such a lovely name, baby. Now, tell me, who are your parents, and where do you live?"
But her response left me stunned. "My parents live with God."
I looked at the nurse, seeking clarification. "What do you mean, baby?" I asked gently.
The nurse explained, "Doctor, yesterday, there was a terrible accident. A truck hit a car, and the car was completely destroyed. The police found a man and woman dead inside, but they couldn't find any identification. However, they did find a bracelet with the name 'Angel' engraved on it."
I felt a pang of sadness, thinking about the poor little girl's loss. "Oh, God, why?" I whispered.
But then I looked at Angel, who was smiling through her tears. Her dimples made her even more adorable. I cleaned her wound, applied cream, and decided to take her with me.
As we stepped outside, I called Kia. "Where are you, Kia?" I asked.
"Behind you, baby," she replied.
I turned around to see Kia and Rohan approaching us. "What happened?" Kia asked, noticing Angel.
