Charlotte's POV
Today is Chompu's birthday, and she's invited us all to her house.
"Maybe you should have gotten her something else as well," I suggest to Engfa as we approach the house and knock.
The house is enormous, even grander than Engfa's.
"Cute eyes, I'm going broke because of Chompu, plus she loves tequila," she replies, holding up the bottle.
I don't have time to respond because the door opens, revealing Heidi.
"You two are the last ones to show up," she informs us, and I glare at Engfa. She wouldn't leave the house because she couldn't find her favorite socks.
"What? Don't look at me like that," she says. I roll my eyes and turn my attention back to Heidi, who smiles warmly. Chompu appears behind her and gives Heidi a playful nudge.
"Tequila, my favorite," Chompu exclaims, gesturing for us to come in.
We both walk in and take off our shoes.
"Charlotte, want to come with me to pour drinks?" Chompu asks, taking the bottle from Engfa. I nod, and Heidi drags Engfa somewhere, causing me to giggle.
"I think Heidi might have a crush on my girlfriend," I say as I follow Chompu to the kitchen.
"I don’t doubt that for a second," she replies with a laugh. We reach the kitchen, and she retrieves glasses from a cabinet. "So, how much did you pay for this house? It looks amazing," I ask.
"I didn't buy this house, Engfa did," she answers casually.
I look at her, surprised. "Engfa bought you a house?"
"Yup, it’s amazing what almost dying can get you. You should try it sometime," she shrugs and pours the drinks.
She finishes and starts walking out of the kitchen. I follow, still shocked that Engfa bought her a house. How much money does she exactly have?
We enter the living room where everyone is snacking and chatting. Heidi is talking to Tina. Ethan and Nudee are conversing with Engfa, who looks utterly perplexed.
I laugh at her facial expressions, and she glances at me, smiling. Chompu and I put the drinks down just as the doorbell rings.
"Are we expecting someone else?" Nudee asks, and Chompu shakes her head no.
Tina seems to have caught on to something because she's glaring hard at Engfa.
"What did you do?" she asks in a low voice, and Engfa quickly stands up from the couch.
"I'm going to open the door," she says and quickly leaves.
I hear the door open and close, and a few seconds later, Engfa walks back into the living room with Dolly behind her.
"You invited her?" Chompu asks, shocked.
"Why would you do that?" Nudee raises her voice slightly. I look at Tina to see she's staring at Dolly but not saying anything.
"All of you, be nice," Engfa warns. To be honest, I'm on her friends' side. Dolly played a part in that big fight we had.
"I can't do this right now," Nudee says and walks out of the living room. Heidi and Ethan slowly follow her.
"Maybe I should go," Dolly tells Engfa.
"No, you're not going anywhere," Engfa replies, and Dolly nods uncertainly. Tina gets up from the couch and slowly approaches Dolly, a look in her eye I've never seen before.
