Jungkook's pov
The ride home was unusually quiet, tension palpable in the air. Y/N's expression spoke volumes, her face etched with distress. I held back from probing her on the road; it felt like she might break down at any moment. I resolved to wait until we reached home to talk to her.
As soon as we arrived, Y/N dashed into her room, slamming the door shut behind her. Concern gnawed at me. Quickly changing into something more comfortable, I made my way to her room. With a gentle push, I slowly opened the door.
There she was, seated on her bed, her arms wrapped tightly around her knees, her head bowed in despair. A tremor ran through her body, and I knew she was on the verge of tears.
Approaching her cautiously, I enveloped her in a tight hug. She clung to me, burying her face in my chest as tears streamed down her cheeks. It pained me to see her like this. I despised seeing tears in her eyes; all I ever wanted was to see her smile.
"What happened? Why are you crying?" I asked softly, my voice filled with concern and restrained anger. The mere thought of someone causing her pain ignited a fierce protectiveness within me.
She continued to cry, her sobs wracking her body, but she didn't reply. Gently, I stroked her hair, offering what little comfort I could muster. "It's okay. Everything will be fine. Please don't cry. Your tears... they make me want to cry too..."
"J-Jung...K-Kook..." Y/N's voice quivered between her sobs.
I held her at arm's length, concern etched across my face. "Yes, what happened?"
"I... I saw Taehyung," she confessed, her words causing my heart to plummet.
"What?!" I exclaimed, my mind reeling with disbelief. "How... How can you see him?!"
"He came to my office today, as the CEO of Kim and Sons," she explained, shaking me by the shoulders.
As she recounted the events of the day, shock coursed through me, leaving my mouth agape. How could Taehyung be alive after all this time. "Did he recognize you? Are you sure it was him?" I pressed, grappling with the overwhelming realization.
"I can't be certain if he recognized me, but I know it was him. I could never forget his face. He's our Taehyung," she affirmed, her voice trembling with emotion.
I felt a whirlwind of conflicting emotions swirling within me. Taehyung's return meant the return of my best friend, but it also raised questions about the future. Would Y/N leave me for him. Tears welled up in my eyes at the thought of losing her. I loved her more than anything, and the idea of her slipping away tore me apart.
"Jungkook... What should I do?" Y/N's voice snapped me out of my reverie.
In truth, I was just as lost as she was. I wasn't ready to let her go. "Y/N, I need some time alone..." I murmured, my voice barely above a whisper, before quietly slipping out of her room.
1 week later
Y/N's pov
One week had passed, and my search for Taehyung had yielded no results. I scoured every possible corner of Seoul, but there was no sign of him. It was hard to shake off the feeling that I had seen him, but without any evidence, it felt like a mere hallucination.
Jungkook and I continued our usual routine, though physical intimacy between us had dwindled. Surprisingly, neither of us broached the topic again. We both harbored a silent fear of losing each other.
On a lazy Sunday evening, Jungkook and I strolled through the park. I held an ice cream in my hand, the cool treat slowly melting under the warm evening sun.
"Sea or mountain?" I asked him, starting our usual game of questions.
"Sea! Your turn, Bike or car?" he replied, his eyes twinkling with amusement.
"Of course, car!" I declared, taking a bite of my ice cream. "Love or friendship?"
"That's a tough one... I need to think," Jungkook replied dramatically, poking his cheek. "Both. Friendship cannot last without love, and lovers cannot last without friendship."
"Wise answer"
"Y/n, Food or Kook?".
"Food. Is that even a question?!" I rolled my eyes playfully.
"Not fair! I should be your first priority!" he pouted, his expression adorable. "By the way, your ice cream is melting. You can give it to me if you want," he added with a smirk.
"In your dreams, Jeon!" I retorted, quickly finishing the remainder of my treat.
"Okay then, Books or mov—" Jungkook's words trailed off abruptly, and I followed his gaze to see what had caught his attention. It was him. Taehyung stood a short distance away, his eyes locked on us, his expression unreadable.
As I closed the distance between us, my heart raced with a mixture of apprehension and longing. Standing before him, I couldn't help but feel dwarfed by his imposing presence.
"Y-Y/n?" he whispered, his voice barely audible yet powerful enough to send shivers down my spine.
After so many days of yearning, his voice felt like a balm to my soul. Tears welled up in my eyes as I reached out, my fingers trembling as they traced the contours of his soft cheeks. I feared that this moment was too good to be true, that he might vanish before my very eyes.
To my surprise, he caught my hand midway, his touch sending a jolt of electricity through me. With tenderness in his gaze, he pressed a gentle kiss to the back of my hand, his lips lingering against my skin.
"It's been too long..." he murmured softly, his words carrying the weight of all the time we had spent apart.
