Ethan's eyes literally exploded as they captured mine, and I watched as he abruptly sat up in his seat, a swirl of shock, fear and confusion written all over his face, giving him an unpleasant look altogether.
So maybe I had forgotten to tell Ethan what I had seen in my other vision. But that was only because I was going through so much, dealing with grandma's secret and trying my best to recover from the bombshell my mother had planted in my life, it had totally slipped my mind. I mentally cursed my stupid brain as I trembled under about twenty-something pairs of eyes, with only one that truly caught my attention. One that was usually bright and filled with love whenever they stared at me, but now threw daggers at me from across the room.
"Sorry for the interruption Mr Green, but we've got a new student in our midst," Mrs Fletcher addressed an equally formal yet seemingly younger man. He looked to be in his early thirties, and he stood in front of a whiteboard that sat beside the classroom door. Etched to the board was a meticulous description of some broken down formulas I recognized from Chemistry with Mrs Müller. Even his handwriting was formal. "Now class, how do we welcome our new students?"
"You are welcome to our school," on cue, they all distractedly sang in disharmony. All except one that I couldn't tear my gaze away from. "We hope you enjoy your stay and promise to treat you with the value and respect you deserve."
"Wonderful," I could practically feel the sunshine of Mrs Fletcher's smile from behind me. "Remember to live up to your promise, class, because she is now part of everyone of us here. Ms Walker," I almost jumped at the sound of my name. I turned back to Mrs Fletcher with as much of a warm smile as I could muster. "Please feel free to join the other students and go on with classes. Don't forget to talk to one or two persons that can freely show you around. However, if you have troubles making the right friend, don't hesitate to reach out to my office for an arrangement of a proper tour around the school. Also, I would like you to visit my office at the end of the day to get your measurements taken for your school uniform, including other necessary adjustments. I'm sure that would really boosts your connection with your fellow students. Any questions?"
I glanced at Mom and she immediately threw me a reassuring smile. Suddenly, I felt like a four year old that was being left in school without her parent. I felt my throat constrict with incoming tears that I immediately bit down as I traced my gaze back to my principal.
"No, Mrs Fletcher," the words tasted sour as they left my mouth. Luckily, neither Mom nor Mrs Fletcher seemed to catch that as they both beamed at me.
"Excellent," Mrs Fletcher clapped her hands once and turned to address the teacher. "Carry on Mr Green. And don't forget to make our new student feel welcomed." Then they were out, closing the door that mutely clasped shut on behind them.
Then I was alone. Being stared at by twenty-something pairs of eyes and a young teacher that looked more of a college lecturer. I felt heat creep up my cheeks and my heart drum wildly in my chest as the entire room was filled with silence.
So, was this my cue to take a seat so Mr Green could continue his lecture? Was I supposed to speak up and introduce myself, even without being asked? God, I couldn't believe that among the many highschool movies I'd watched, I had never come across one about a girl who was just beginning her journey through highschool. Maybe then I would have gotten a few tips about how to react in this type of situation, but no, I had to pick and binge on classy highschool garbage that chose to betray me at this very moment.
I was contemplating on giving Mr Green a handshake and finding myself a gravely needed chair before my spaghetti legs gave up on me, when the former spoke up.
"Welcome to Chemistry class, Ms Walker," the young lecturer spoke up and I almost heaved an audible sigh of relief. "As you already know I'm Mr Green, and I am the Chemistry, Maths and Physics teacher of this class. Care to introduce yourself?"
