It was nearing the end of September, the leaves were starting to turn a slight orange.

My entire life seemed to be in slow motion and on repeat. Go to class, read at library, ride Percy, do homework, say a few words to my friends, and sleep.

I felt like a zombie.

And for some reason my English 12 teacher decided it was best to 'change up' seating plans only one month into the school year. To 'spice' things up. Pretty sure that she should have retired ten years ago. She was now going onto 90 I believe.

Walking to my newly assigned desk I see a boy already sitting beside it. His curly brown hair slightly sitting around his face.

Looking up from his book he asked, "you sitting here?"

Looking up from his book he asked, "you sitting here?"

Was I standing there for a long time?

Nodding I sit down and pull out or assigned book. We were for some reason re-reading 'to kill a mockingbird', even though I read it my freshman year. Apparently this was my teachers favorite.

Looking over to the boys book I recognize the cover. "Marie Glen?"

He looked up at me, "you know her?"

"I own at least one copy of every single book she's ever wrote." I say confidently. Being a 'book nerd' (as my aunt put it), had its perks. "She's my favorite mystery writer."

"Hmmm, not much people seem to know about her any more" he says closing the book. "What's your favorite?"

"The crows murder, its plot twist was amazing!" I say.

"I agree" he says.

Before our conversation could continue the teacher started class. Maybe this semester wouldn't be so bad after all...

"How was class?" Seth asks as he meets me at the door

"How was class?" Seth asks as he meets me at the door.

"Fine" I finished buckling my satchel book bag. "You?"

"Math is math" he says.

"Agreed."

"There are some different throws of math though" Amoy joins us as we walk to lunch.

"Sorry to break it to you Amoy but not all of us are as smart as you" I say.

"Says the one with all A's" Amoy argues.

That was true. I couldn't argue the there.

"So what happened today?" Amoy asks. Our search for the murder hit a dead end weeks ago and we still had no leads.

"Nothing much, English is easy as usual." I say. I'd always loved it, it was my favorite class.

"Maybe for you, I have a C-"Renee joins us.

"You don't get an excuse, you partied the night of that one test" Amoy says.

"I studied all day before that though" Renee says.

Our lunch was the same. Me, Lily, Nick, Zack, Abbie, Isabelle, Renee, Sahila, Vivi, Aren, Jessie, Ben, Max, Seth, and Amoy. I know, that's a lot of kids. But the tables here also could hold twenty if we needed to. Maybe more.

"Did you all hear about the party tonight?" Max asks everyone. "I hear it's going to be epic."

"I did" Renee says. "I hear that they are going to do it by the lake."

"We should go" Vivi says. She may not be much of a people person but she loved to get out of her dorm as much as possible.

"I'm in" I say. I needed a break anyways. What could possibly go wrong?
