Maria sat in the corner of the library, hidden away. As she found solace in the quiet place, away from the noise. Lost in her thoughts, she flipped through the pages of the book she's holding, her mind drifting between the words on the page and the maze of emotions swirling within her. She questioned, what's wrong with me?
The sound of footsteps disrupted her silent. Glancing up, she saw a figure approaching, the footsteps soften against the hushed backdrop of the library.
"Mind if I join you?" a voice broke through the silence, gentle yet unfamiliar.
Maria looked up to see a man standing. Maria gestured to the empty chair opposite her. "Sure, go ahead," she replied, her voice welcoming yet guarded.
The man settled into the chair, his eyes scanning the rows of books with interest. "You seem alone" he remarked, his tone thoughtful.
Maria shrugged nonchalantly, masking the of uneasiness in her as she thought who are you?"I guess you could say that," she replied, offering him a small smile.
For a moment, they sat in silence, the weight of unspoken words hanging in the air between them.
Breaking the silence, the man extended his hand. "I'm Mark," he introduced himself, a warm smile playing at the corners of his lips.
Reluctantly, Maria took his hand, feeling a jolt of electricity at the contact. "Maria," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper.
"I know" answered mark, making Maria smile as if understanding that, of course everyone knows."You know?" she echoed, a hint of mockery coloring her tone.
Mark chuckled softly, a warm twinkle in his eyes. "Well, not in the literal sense," he clarified, his voice tinged with amusement. "But your reputation precedes you."
She had always been aware of the persona she projected to the world—the outgoing, life-of-the-party girl who thrived in social settings.
Leaning back in her chair, Maria regarded Mark with newfound interest. "And what exactly have you heard about me?" she asked, a playful smirk dancing on her lips.
Mark shrugged nonchalantly, a playful glint in his eyes. "Oh, just the usual rumors and gossip," he replied, his tone light. "But I've always been more interested in the person behind the stories."
A pang of vulnerability surged through Maria at his words, a rawness she hadn't anticipated. She felt kinda exposed, stripped bare of the layers of pretense she had carefully constructed.
Maria forced a casual smile. "Well, you've certainly piqued my curiosity," she admitted, her voice tinged with uncertainty.
Mark grinned, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "Good," he replied, his tone teasing. "Because I have a feeling there's much more to you than meets the eye."
Maria felt a glimmer of hope stir within her. Perhaps, he is right they are more than me than what everyone thinks, maybe I could finally unravel the layers of me.
Little did she know, their chances of encounter in the library would mark the beginning of a journey that would forever alter the course of her life, leading her down a path of self-discovery.
