INTRODUCTION
With the hot pink screen glaring at him in the dark, Bokuto thinks he's about to lose it. Or maybe he has already lost his sanity — by this point, he isn't so sure.
Chewing his thumbnail apprehensively, he sits on his bed with the blanket pulled over his head, like a kid trying not to get caught awake scrolling on his phone past his bedtime. Even though there's no one else with him, he can't help but feel some sort of shame seep into his bones, as if his ancestors are watching him over his shoulder right this moment, and they're making fun of him with every press of a key as he types in his crush's name before hovering his mouse over the ♥︎ Calculate ♥︎ button.
He frowns. Is he really about to stoop this low? After all, love calculators could be considered a bit juvenile. He remembers they were fairly popular for a while back when he was in junior high, about a gazillion years ago— way beyond his demographic now. Plus, he doesn't want to risk the chance that he could get a percentage so low and humbling.
However, Kuroo had told him earlier in the day that mercury was in retrograde, and although he really has no clue what that means, he assumes it has to mean something good. Thus, with a courageous face, he takes a huge breath and presses the button that would supposedly calculate the compatibility of him and his crush.
As he waits for the website to load, his brave facade soon deflates and he bites the tips of his fingernails in anticipation, his heart palpitating like crazy. A singular bead of sweat even materialises on his forehead, slides down his cheek, and plops onto the blanket, leaving a wet patch that'll surely dry in a couple of minutes so he pays it no mind.
Right before he starts to think he can't take anymore of this waiting, finally, finally, the screen loads with a giant red heart in the middle. But just when he's about to read the results, a message suddenly pops up, blocking the number.
Furrowing his brows together, he tries to find the exit button or some way to get rid of the pop-up screen, but unfortunately, he finds none, so he's stuck staring aimlessly at it in distress for a moment before actually reading its contents to see what's so important.
