"Are you serious?"

I gasped in shock as I leaned forward in the chair. The unsuspected words that left her mouth made me unable to speak, stunned.

She laughed weakly at my reaction, "Sorry Y/n, but don't worry. I'm not leaving this job just yet. I still need to pay my rent and my other job doesn't pay me until I do my first task. So about another week." Yachi groaned in annoyance, I could only muster a frown from the confession.

"When you do leave I'm gonna be bored out of my mind since I don't like anyone else that works here." My complaint went on deaf ears while I flipped through an old car magazine. A sour look on my face since I desperately didn't want her to go.

I came to Japan for a new beginning from all my past problems. Yet for the 3 months that I've been here have made me gain new problems with this job. I've worked half of my time at this deli to pay off my bills and I've hated every single moment of it.

Yachi made it better though by a lot so it hurt knowing she wasn't gonna be here anymore after this next week. I turned to look at the empty food joint and dreaded having to run it by myself during my night shift.

I glanced over, bringing my focus back to Yachi who was just scrolling through her phone. I huffed out in disbelief seeing her being so calm about this. "So what's this new job that you're leaving me for anyways?"

She slowly looked up at me with a nervous grin. "Sorry Y/n, that part I'm gonna have to leave out." Her quick refusal to any more information made me raise a brow in suspicion.

"Hitoka, you can't be serious. How can I not be worried when you're saying things like that! Just promise me you won't get hurt during it." The thought of her doing something dangerous just for the pay made my brows scrunch.

She avoided my eyes and just nodded. I was probably just overthinking, but I truly just want the best for her.

Suddenly her phone lit up and she smiled when seeing the notification, "Sorry Y/n, my ride's here. You mind clocking out for me?" She didn't miss a beat when grabbing her purse and drink, rushing to leave. I just sighed, my voice tired as I waved goodbye. "I guess not, be safe."

She had a bubbly smile on her face as she left through the back door, making me crinkle my nose from that unusual exit. I brushed it off for now.

I glanced to the window beside me and realized she left her to-go box by the customary salt and pepper, I grabbed it and hurried to the back door. Hoping she hadn't left yet as I cracked the door open, I immediately stopped in my steps as I heard a loud engine and laughing.
