You slowly peeled open your eyes, meeting the same light you'd gotten so used to these past couple months. When were you gonna be able to wake up to your own ceiling light? Or even by the sun peeking through your windows and not the pathetically cleaned hospital windows.

Turning onto your side, you noticed a card on the bedside table, sitting idly as if it was patiently waiting for you to read it.
You didn't.

Didn't even bother to pick up the smooth card with your weak fingers.
You gazed at it with uncaring eyes. You knew exactly who it was from.

The same man who put you in the hospital in the first place.

Your boyfriend. Now your Ex.

The man who harboured such insecurity in his masculinity, he tried so hard to prove himself as a 'man'. Even if it meant putting his hands on you.
Even if it meant almost killing you just because you were too ill to make him food, let alone get out of bed.

You turned around and onto your other side, watching the motion of the trees. A bird landed on one of the branches, singing its song of freedom.
How you wished you could trade lives with that bird
How you wished you could be anybody besides yourself at the moment.

You lost your train of thought, slowly zoning out on the bird, except you didn't even notice that it ended up flying away just a moment later.
You were snapped out of your trance by your nurse walking into your room, trolley in front of her stacked with that mushy and bland hospital food. It was fine, it was better than being at home so you'd take bland food over being back with him.

"Good morning, (Y/n)! How are we feeling today?" She beamed, placing your tray onto the bedside table, sneakily taking the card and placing it into her pocket.
She had become a person that you'd confide in whenever you were feeling down these past couple months. She was never too busy for you, and never too irritated to listen to your cry's.
You loved her like a sister, and you were sure she felt the same for you.

"Ugh.. my head hurts.." you said, sitting up and offering her a weak smile.
She sat at the foot of your bed, rubbing your shin over the thin blanket.

She clapped her hands, as if something had just dawned on her.
"Now, I don't know if you'll be as excited as me, but... the new patient next door is really cute! You got a hot neighbour now!" She giggled, taking a piece of cracker from the tray that you had moved onto your lap.

You cringed, shaking your head "Mei, you know I can't even be near a man right now" you stated, taking a spoonful of your mashed potatoes.
