Chapter 3

Soon I'd finally been dragged to the dance floor by Renee. After a bit of long anxious seconds of me feeling out of place I started to sway to the music. That was it. I was sucked in. My mind only on the music. It was amazing.

Soon I went to get a drink and checked my phone. It was almost midnight.

"Doing good?" Abbie walks up to me.

"Yeah, just needed a drink" I hold up my cup of red punch.

"Same" she grabs a cup from the table. We walked over to an open spot by a tree. "So... can we talk?"

"About?" I ask.

"It's about the last few months... I didn't realize what I was doing until it was too late..." I stood there confused as she talked. What was she talking about? "The thing with Isabelle, I don't want to seem like I'm replacing you. She's just having trouble settling into school and she was new also... I promise I'm not trying to not be as around as much anymore."

I let out a breath I didn't know I was keeping in. "No, it's fine. I know you would never do something deliberately to hurt me."

"Really?" Abbie asks.

"Really. And besides, I'm glad that you're making more friends. It's good to have allies..."

"Well I'm going to go force Zack to dance with me for a bit, talk later?" Abbie asks.

"Sure"I say.

As she walks away I was about to walk back to the dance floor when someone walks up to me.

"Hey Lauren" Meilin asks. "Can we talk?"

"Ummm..." I couldn't even remember the last time we spoke besides the few comments during the volleyball. "Sure..."

"Did you and Luke... have a fight?" She asks.

My mind stops. Why was she asking if I had a fight with Luke.

"What?" I ask her.

"Well there was the video..." right. Students had even video taped me and Luke's fight in the hall. Lucky me. "And... him and Vanessa..."

"Vanessa?" I ask. What did she have to do with this?

"They... are dating now..." Meilin says. Then quickly adds,but I sware I had no clue what was going on until it happened. And I didn't know if you both broke up-"

"We did" I cut her off.

"Oh..." she said. "Well... I just wanted to clarify things..." there's another awkward silence. "Well... talk later?"

"I guess" I say. I wanted this conversation to end.

"Bye" as soon as she walked off my mind was spinning a thousand thoughts per minute. He'd already moved on?! I should be upset but I almost feel... betrayed. And Vanessa?

I needed to get out.

I left the party area and started to walk a bit to the woods. I made sure to know that I could hear the music still so that I couldn't get lost though.

Soon I found a fallen tree and I use it as a bench to sit down.

That's when a twig snaps. Why did I always have to leave my body guard at the worst times?!
