I was confident that Nandini and the rest of the family would shower her with affection, just as they did with Rian. Nandini's joy was infectious, and I couldn't help but feel a sense of warmth seeing her so happy.
It was as if a weight had been lifted off her shoulders, and she could finally breathe a sigh of relief. The atmosphere in the room was palpably charged with emotion, and I felt grateful to be a part of this family, even if it was just for a short while.
Just as everyone was heading to the dining room for breakfast, my phone rang, shrill and insistent. I glanced at the caller ID and saw that it was the hospital. My heart skipped a beat as I answered the call, my mind racing with worst-case scenarios.
"Hello, Ma'am, there's an emergency. We have a kid who's injured badly, please come fast," the voice on the other end said. I didn't hesitate, grabbing my bag and coat as I rushed upstairs. "I'll be right there, please clean the kid's wounds," I instructed the nurse before hanging up.
As I dashed downstairs, Nandini called out to me, "Bhabhi, are you going somewhere?" I nodded curtly, "Hospital, there's an emergency."
"Beta, but you haven't eaten breakfast." I reassured her, "Maa, I don't have time to eat now." I kissed Rian's forehead,
"Mommy will be back soon, baby, take care."
Revansh offered to drop me off, but I declined, still smarting from our previous encounters. "No, I can go myself," I said firmly, not waiting for his response. I hailed a cab outside and urged the driver to hurry, "Bhaiya, please drive fast."
Fifteen minutes later, I arrived at the hospital, my mind focused on the task at hand. I rushed to my cabin, where I found a little boy crying uncontrollably. I knelt beside him, speaking softly to calm him down.
"Hello, baby, why are you crying?"He sniffled, "Th-they're injecting me." I reassured him, "Don't worry, they won't inject you. Can I clean your wounds?" He looked up at me with big, round eyes, "You won't inject me, na?" I smiled, "Yes, baby, I promise." I cleaned his wounds, applied ointment, and distracted him with the promise of chocolate.
As the nurse administered the injection, I handed him the chocolate, earning a smile from the little boy. His parents thanked me profusely as they left, and the nurse praised my expertise in handling children. I smiled, feeling a sense of satisfaction wash over me. The rest of the day flew by in a blur of patients and paperwork, but I didn't notice, lost in the rhythm of my work.

As I sat in the cab on my way home, I couldn't help but feel exhausted. It was already 9:30 PM, and I had been on my feet since morning, attending to one patient after another. My head was throbbing with a dull ache, and my stomach was growling with hunger. I hadn't eaten all day, and the only thing that was keeping me going was the thought of a warm meal waiting for me at home.
