Chapter 1

I looked at my phone for the hundredth time to check the clock. 7am could not get here any faster. Working night shift at the hospital was not for the weak. I gathered my stuff while waiting on the day shift nurses to come in so that I could do my final rounds and get out of here. I took the time to respond to my best friend and roommate, Shae, who worked at the exact same hospital as me. We just worked on different floors.

Pooh💕: "have you clocked out yet?"

Me: "Not yet, waiting on day shift."

Pooh💕: "ok, I'll meet you in the car"

Pooh💕: "what's the plans for this weekend??"

Me: "idc. I just need to get drunk".

Pooh💕: "we going to the liquor store before we go to the house. Rell is coming over, he's bringing his brother too. Since we worked and couldn't do anything for the 4th we can just grill and shoot our own fireworks in the yard"

Me: "okay that's fine, Roc was supposed to stay this weekend too so he can hang with them"

I locked my phone and placed it back in my bag once I finally heard some of the day shift nurses coming in. I finished out my rounds, clocked out and made my way down the hallway to get onto the elevator.

Once I got into the parking deck and reached my best friend's car, I opened the back door and threw my bag onto the backseat before opening the passenger door and sliding into the seat. I threw my head back and let out a sigh of relief.

"What type of mood are we in for tonight?" Shae said before plugging her phone into the aux.

"Well, I'm not trying to be too fucked up, my man coming tonight" I said.

Me and Shae are total opposites but we click together so well. She is a couple of years younger and is more wild and outgoing. I'm introverted and a little more self disciplined. But she always encourages me to have fun and enjoy myself a little.

"That's the whole point" she said. " you need to get fucked up"

I laughed and pulled out my phone to check my notifications.

I reached into the backseat to get my wallet out of my bag before getting out of the car once we pulled into the parking lot of the liquor store.

It's crazy that the cashier, Arham, knows us by name but that's our guy and he looks out for us every time we come in here.

"You don't know how to speak today" Arham questioned laughing in his cute little foreign accent as we walked through the door and straight to the coolers to grab some wine first.

"I wasn't coming to talk to you today " Shae said playfully getting smart back and setting the bottles of wine onto the counter.

"What we drinking today ladies, I got you patron in stock today" Arham said.

" Nawl we not doing tequila or nothing white this weekend, I'm not trying to be shit faced" I said laughing. I can't handle white liquor but anything brown, I'll drink it.

Shae rolled her eyes and began looking at all of the bottles behind the counter. " Let me get that Jack Daniel's honey." She said pointing at the one she wanted.

Arham grabbed her bottle then waited for me to choose what I wanted next. "Uhhh let me just get that Hennessy and the crown royal apple." I said after looking through the bottles.

We paid for our stuff and walked out of the store.

"We can go to the grocery store later when the boys get here, I'm ready to go lay down." Shae said. I nodded my head agreeing, my body was so tired.

I placed my bags onto the kitchen counter before taking my work bag and sitting it on the floor by my bed then going into the bathroom, turning on the shower and stripping out of my scrubs.

I put on my bonnet, washed my face and brushed my teeth then stepped into the shower. Once I was done with my shower routine, I dried off and walked into my room and threw on a pair of shorts and a tank top and walked back into the kitchen.

I poured a glass of wine and grabbed a pop tart and walked outside onto the balcony. Shortly after Shae came outside after doing the same.

We talked about our night at work and our weekend plans while we finished our wine and going back into the house to lay down and get some sleep.
