Jayla sat with Amy as the two folded laundry. She glanced up every couple seconds to watch Carl. The boy was running around with Sophia as they played their own version of tag.Ever since the dead started rising, Jayla never let Carl out of her sight. She had already seen one too many 'dead ones' and she didn't want to add her brother to that list.
"How's he handling everything? Y'know with your dad and stuff." Amy asked quietly. Jayla had been honest with the blonde about her father's passing since the two had grown close over the last couple of weeks.
Jayla sighed. "I think he's doing really well with all things considered. He's a kid so it's hard to tell his emotions sometimes."
Amy gave a soft smile, glancing out to the young boy who was running around, the biggest smile plastered on his face.
"I'm sure it helps to have you and your mom there to help him. And Shane." Amy added.
Jayla sighed to herself at the mention of the man who she once would go as far as to consider her uncle. Her feelings towards Shane had been up and down ever since he gave them the news about Rick's passing.
She was happy that Shane was there for her family and even took care of them, but she couldn't help but feel a deep burning feeling in her chest every time she saw him.
Maybe she just didn't like the idea that he acted as though he was her dad now. She didn't want a new dad. Rick was her father. Nothing was ever going to change that.
She also didn't fail to notice how Shane had taken a special interest in her mother, Lori. It was as though the two didn't waste any time getting together after Rick passed.
She wanted her mom to be happy, of course, but she just wished it didn't mean that her happiness lied with Shane, of all people.
Amy shrugged and went back to her clothes. "I'm just glad that Shane is helping take care of this place. Although, sometimes I hate his attitude."
Jayla scrunched her eyebrows turning her head to face the blonde. "What do you mean?"
Amy sighed, dropping her laundry in her lap so that her attention could be fully on their conversation. "I don't know, doesn't it seem like he acts like he owns the place sometimes?"
Jayla chewed on her bottom lip and raised her eyebrows in agreement. "Sometimes? I think you mean all the time." She said sarcastically.
Amy chuckled. "I'm glad I'm not crazy here and that you see it, too. He just has a huge ego, y'know?"
Jayla laughed for the first time in what felt like forever. "Oh trust me, I know."

Jayla sat beside Carl as he took his time finishing their food from dinner, The two sat beside the warm fire and watched as the sun was setting.
