There are so many bad Dylan O'Brien fanfictions out there. Oh my gosh. It's terrible.
Anyway, I am here to tell you about character growth. Character growth, if you didn't know, is pretty much how the character changes based on the people, events, and decisions made in the course of the book.
If your character hasn't changed for better or for worse (and they can get WORSE, that is allowed), you've got un problemo.
Something that helps me is finding three qualities of my character: one good, one neutral, and one bad, then ask myself these questions when my character has to make major choices.
"Is she/he staying true to the good quality?"
"How is the neutral quality affecting her choice? (is it pushing her forward or holding her back?)"
"How will she overcome/destroy the bad quality?"
Or if the character is evil:
"How is she/he letting the bad quality grow further? Why?"
So yeah, hope this helped!
