Taylor's cheeks flushed at the compliment, and she looked down, seeming like she didn't know what to say. Hell, I didn't know what to say either. I hadn't mean to say that; it had kind of just slipped out. But it was true, Taylor did look perfect with my jacket wrapped around her.

"Well, thank you." Taylor mumbled. "I'll make sure to wash it before I give it back." Her anger seemed to have faded after my gesture, like she was so surprised she didn't know how to snap at me anymore. Maybe we could slip past this rivalry.

"Do you need anything else?" I asked her as I took out my phone and texted my Mom a short list of items, asking her to pick them up. "Why don't we go find somewhere to wait until my Mom gets here?"

"Okay." Taylor sighed.

"Come on." I motioned. "There's no p.e classes on after lunch today, so the gym will be empty. You can hang out in my office."

Taylor nodded, not saying a word as she wrapped her arms around herself and moved to follow me. We walked in silence, and I really didn't know what to say to her. I mean, we'd never really been around each other, especially not like this. Taylor seemed vulnerable, embarrassed, and by the way her shoulders were hunched I guessed that she was in pain. Which of course she was. As a guy, I knew nothing about periods but I'd been around enough women to know that sometimes they hurt like a bitch. And Taylor was tough, so if she was acting like this around me of all people, she was having a hard time.

She mumbled a quiet thank you as she sank into the chair opposite my desk, and I told her I'd be right back before going off to see if I could find some painkillers. I had no luck for a while, but then I found a first aid kit in the corner of the gym and took some out of there. On my way back to my office where Taylor was waiting for me, I snagged one of the extra drink bottles left over from some promotion and filled it up at the water fountain.

When I walked back into my office, Taylor had her knees tucked up to her chest, looking like she was trying not to whimper in pain. A pang of sympathy shot through me as she looked up, and I closed the door before placing the pills and bottle on the desk next to her elbow. Taylor managed a small, grateful smile as she unlocked her arms from around her legs, reaching over. I watched as she popped a few pills and swallowed them, wincing.

"I'm sorry Swift." I murmured as I pulled my chair out from behind my desk to sit next to her. "That looks like it really sucks."

"Yeah, count yourself lucky." Taylor sighed, and I opened my mouth. She held up a finger. "And don't you dare say that you're a guy and I'll never know the pain of getting kicked in the nuts, because I'll kick you in the nuts right now if you even think about bringing that up."

I laughed, sitting back and holding my hands up in mock surrender. Alright. She had me with that one; that was exactly what I'd been about to point out. Maybe it was best to save that kind of joke until her period wasn't kicking her from the inside out. Taylor looked like she just might slaughter me if I dared to say it, so I chose life and wisely did not.

After a little while of slightly tense silence, my Mom texted to say she was outside. I told Taylor I'd be right back, leaving my phone on my desk as I went out to meet her. Mom waved to get my attention where she was getting out her car, going around to get some things out of the back.

"Hey Ma." I smiled. "Thanks for getting that stuff, Taylor's really having a hard time."

"Anytime." Mom passed the paper bag over. "So who is this Taylor, how come you've never mentioned her before? You normally tell us when you start dating someone."
